With the new school year coming up, my parents made a deal with me. If I get a 3.6-4.0gpa for all year, they'll get me a new guitar for Christmas. I've decided I want a 7 string. I'm mostly going to be doing metal, maybe jazz. It has to be under $600. So far, I've seen the ESP Stephen Carpenter signature, the Ibanez RG 7 string (I can't remember the model name), and the Schecter Damien 7 string. What are your guys' opinions on a 7 string for me to get?

i dont know much about 7 string
my advice would be check out some artist u know who play them, if u find they all a certain model or make go for that or chose your fav

as far as i know shecter make the best 7 strings but im really not sure

this is absolutely, 100% correct.
For example, Dave Mustaine has a signature coffee mix.

ive been listening to alot of metal played on 7 strings the past few weeks, and ive also decided i want one. i think i might go with an ibanez s series because i really like the body shape, and it has got to have a trem. any thoughts?

You can't end this thread without at least considering Agiles!
Most 7 strings from Agile...
& a couple that havn't been moved to that page yet...
Hornet Pro (a black V model)
The same Hornet Pro, but in white

They're all pretty great, I have an Interceptor Pro 27, & I love it!!
Bad thing is you can't try before you buy But they're still amazing

Might be able to swing a used Schecter Loomis FR for $600...if possible, do that.
Schecter C-1 Classic Raven RG20 + Digitech RP50

Man, I could go for a 7 right now...

Schecter hellraiser..or the jeff loomis sig..would give anything for a 7 string with some lovely emg's :-D
#8
shecter makes a guitar similar to the jeff loomis model, minus the maple fretboard. it may have diff. hardware too.

my bad, this axe is mentioned above. lol

You can get guitars way better than Agiles for $600.

I havn't found any better than Agile in the UK, but even with shipping etc. I think they're better than half the stuff I could get in the UK.
But I always like to suggest them
Also, I think they're quality new guitars for that sorta price

I would also suggest the Jeff loomis C7fr could probally find a great deal on a used one. I would also say it is by far one of the best guitars I have ever owned with my mesa triple rectifier it sounds so godly it gives me goose bumps.

you should ask the guys in the 7 string thread, they seem to be very knowledgeable

+1, this will be the easiest to transition to from a 6 string.

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Don't get the 7321, because for that much you can get the discontinued 7421 or 7621: both were made in Japan.

why are the 7421 or the 7621 better than the 7321?
im not trying to be annoying, but ive played the 7321 and its pretty decent in my opinion. (ive never played the 7621 or the 7421)

Much (imo) better playability, and more durable parts.
