If you are looking for a really fun fingerpicking song, you should learn "Under a Violet Moon" by Blackmore's Night. One of the funnest acoustic/folk songs I've ever played.

Edit: Also, -1 to the Jack Johnson suggestion. He is very boring.

It was the only task I would undertake...

Yeah, but the intro to "Taylor" does sound pretty cool.

Perhaps, but if TS is anything like me, he won't want to learn just the intro to the song. If I can't learn it all the way through, I don't really want to learn it.

Some of the acoustic John Mayer stuff is fun, like Why Georgia.

You could get into acoustic blues like Big Bill Broonzy or Skip James...

high and dry, radiohead is fun to sing and play

Thiiiiiis, really fun song, however, if you're like me, if you want to sing it properly you'll have to put it down and octave or two (then again, I'm not much of a vocalist so...). It also has a solo in it made for electric guitar, but it still sounds great on acoustic.

Also, if you feel like Retuning your guitar to DADGAD (I know I don't because I like playing rather than tuning...oh well, that's my laziness) you could learn "Drifting" by Andy Mckee, which is a pretty sweet song...as is most Andy Mckee. Also, "Glimmer of Hope" by Antoine Dufour is a pretty nice song, haven't tried it though, but it sounds nice and not really easy.

I agree that the verses are a little boring, but when doing a cover you can make the song your own so that it will be more fun for you to play.
