I've been learning The Spell by Kamelot for the past 20 minutes (tops). It's the 1st time I've played with a pick in a while. After learning the intro my hand started to ache. Is this normal?
No you've probably got hand-cancer. I'd go to a doctor asap.
It's *normal* if your hand is not trained (anymore). In my eyes, you should stop for today and go on tomorrow, otherwise a typist's neuritis might evolve from this.
If it "hurts" then you know you're getting somewhere, keep going!
I had occaisional wrist pain in my fretting hand until I started stretches before playing. Try it.
Think of it like going to the gym and lifting weights, you're going to be sore afterwards
Your picking hand aches? Check you're not playing with too much tension - relax your hand and look at it, thats pretty much what it should look like when you're picking. Don't grip your pick too hard either.
