Anyone remember the days of getting up early (when you were little) so you could cycle to school to be their early to play football before it started. Or anything like that. When you were little you could just get up and go and be doing fun **** before your 'work' for the day in primary school started.

When did that stop? When did the idea of getting up early becoming anathema?

Imagine... nowadays... getting up an hour early so you could go and play footbal before going to work/secondary school/university/college whatever.

IMAGINE!

I'm going to do it from NOW ON and i believe i'll turn into a child again.

When did that stop?

It stopped when I realized life is only going to get worse as time progresses and there is nothing to stop it from getting worse.

, I remember that. The earlier you got there the cooler you were.

I suppose around 15/16 I stopped doing it. I still have to get up ridiculously early though for band practise

I remember getting home from school to see my cousin. We would play N64 until he left. Then I would go outside and just run and jump around.

Well, I've never been a morning person. I got bussed to school, so the only playing we did outside was waiting for the rest of the buses to show up. I didn't intentionally get up early or anything.

Then you don't remember the days. Your halcyon memory has been impaired by the lack of a 'days of yore' childhood!

I guess i stopped when getting up early was for high school band rehersals and track meets. Now getting up before work seems like a total waste of my precious 6 hours of sleep.

I have more fun staying up late playing guitar and video games now that i dont' have to live under my parents rules i guess, so there's kind of a win scenario going on.

I never got up early intentionally, but naturally, and I always got to school about half an hour early to hang out with my friends and be my whimsical self.

Now if I strive to get up early it's to make sure I get some coffee down me and playing street fighter or something.
I don't actually have friends I can hang out with and have fun with anymore, it's just people I can bare to be around.

This thread makes me sad.

Nah, it's just that my childhood, like the rest of my abomination of a life, sucked.

This.

Man N64 was the bomb back in the day. I remember grinding my teeth at the damned Water Temple in OoT, or Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Tooie (which I just purchased on Xbox Live Arcade a while ago, awesome game)...

It stopped when i gone to high school. But at primary school it was the shizzle. Up at 7am, wash, get changed, go to school, have a kick around.
#26
Actually I reckon it stopped for most people when they started staying up all night instead of having a bed time.

Kids have too much energy in the morning.
I have a load of my small cousins staying over at the moment so I know for sure.
I think we lose out morning energy in our teens - apparently once puberty hits you need a lot more sleep.

They go to bed earlier too. When was the last time you were asleep (not passed out ) by 9pm

I know! Frankly, energy levels go way down permenantly after too many nights on the sauce.
Perhaps a switch from beers to hard liquor will solve my problem.... (I just want some whiskey now )

Yeah, getting up early to watch Arthur and other cartoons... then coming home to eat frosted flakes and play Banjo Kazooie on N64.

Getting up early tomorrow anyway.
Tickets for the Macedonia game. Tix for the Holland game are going on sale as well, but I really don't want to see Scotland get pumped. Again.

In elementary school I used to get up and go to play American Football 45 minutes before the first bell rang. Then when football was banned for being too rough, we would play ball tag. Like regular tag, except you tag someone by pegging them with a tennis ball.

Good times indeed.

I'll imagine it has something to do with bedtimes. Earlier in our lives, we generally have pretty early bedtime and as a result we get up earlier. When this happens to all of our friends, we would of course rather do something fun that sit around moping until school begins.

Now, on the other hand, it's different. We're allowed to go to bed when we want, and since there's no one there if you get up 2 hours before school, why bother going to bed early to do it, when you can stay up and do other stuff?

If we were to revive these 'traditions', we'd have to make a collective group effort, and we all know angsty teenagers doesn't pull those off very well
