Hang on, why do you think you need a distortion pedal?

And don't get either of them, both amps are rubbish. I recommend you get a Peavey Vypyr 30, it runs about $200.

True enough, but I gigged with my 15w MG one time and it was loud enough. Then again, I didn't need cleans either...

+1 for the Peavey. Only thing in your price range that's would stand up in a gig. You wouldn't need a distortion pedal for it either.

the spider 3 has a "metal" setting on it...
i would recommend avoiding those and get (as said above in the 3rd or 4th reply) to get the vypyr if you're short on cash

I know, but he says it as if every amp has one.

Avoid Line 6 at all costs.

Wrong, avoid the SPIDER at all costs. Flextones and Vettas are good stuff.

TS I'm thinking a roland Cube or a Vypyr would be good for you, but we don't know your exact budget.

B-52 AT-112 would CRUSH these other amps mentioned.... theyre $350 and are amazing. If you can't afford it than get a Peavey Vypyr. Or save up for a Bugera....

Please get off the bandwagon. Vetta IIs are amazing.... as are Flextones. Play amps instead of going along with what everyone says.

Unless its a vetta II or a flextone, don't buy a line 6. The spider vales are not terrible just overpriced. If you can save for a b-52 then buy that, if not then get a vypyr, then again I wouldn't gig with a vypyr.

Dont let all the "cool built in effects" and nice looks of the spider fool you. The spider is not a good amp. Also, the Rp50 isn't the best multi FX. If you don't need tons of FX I'd reccomend single pedals. Oh and If your amp has a lead channel, use that instead of a distortion pedal
