A song I wrote a while ago. The Tabs and Chords forum loved it, so I finally decided to get it recorded. I'm quite proud of it. Maybe I'll do a better recording when I have better equipment.

You can listen to the audio on my profile, or you can watch the video I made for it on youtube (which I also put on my profile.) If you like it, PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT ON THE AUDIO CLIP.

And now I'm just going to copy the description from the YT video here so I don't have to write it again.

I wrote this piece after a sad breakup with a long time girlfriend. I really put a lot of emotion into it and I hope it shows in the music.

This song tells the story of a monk from a small village who leaves his temple and travels into the mountains. He gets caught in a storm and is killed, but for his bravery and spirit, he transcends his mortal body and sees the world from high above, in all its beauty.

This song is a mixture of traditional chinese playing and modern instruments. All instruments written and performed by me except the violin part, which was played by my friend James. His channel can be found at http://www.youtube.com/user/Jamesznw Go send him some love if you like his playing.

Its very intersting, not something you hear on ug very much. It was kinda repetitive, but taking in account that its a chinses folk song type song, I though it was very well put together, the guitar near the end made it more rockish while still maintaining the chinise aspect of it. I say job well done.

A lot of stuff on this is impressive. It reminds me a lot of western classical music, because the movements tell a story, but you blend the different instruments effortlessly into one cohesive picture. I thought the drums enhanced the song tremendously. Despite being a fairly long song, I never felt like it was getting repetitive, and I was genuinely shocked, in a good way, several times when the tempo changes hit. On the whole I thought it stuck together very nicely. Bravo!

This is a great piece, by far one of the most interesting things I've heard on here. It has a Chinese vibe, but never really runs into the realm of cliche. I love when you kick in the faster paced instruments + the electric guitar. It really has a folk metal vibe at that point.

The story you have behind it is also pretty interesting. I love music like this that has a classical-esque vibe, where it can tell a story without lyrics or words in general. I could pick out several points where I really felt a specific part of the story, it was pretty moving.

Your playing is spot on. Not much I can really say, its pretty much perfect.

Wow beautiful song man, definitely stands out amongst all the metal on UG. Reminds of some music from Mulan or something =P. You're playing is very good, and the song flows beautifully. I'm very impressed. The heavy part around 4 mins is wicked man.

I thought this was excellent, great composition, and the transition from traditional to heavier stuff was fantastic.

Decent quality as well, and flawless playing.

that was sick! it was so calm and chilled out. i could listen to that if i wanted to fall asleep. even when it went heavy, it was still calm in a way... good job

Hey man, I like this piece a lot! It has a great flow and really tells a story (without even having to read any description).

I love the Chinese folk vibe. As others have said, not something you hear every day. The distorted guitars and double-bass drumming were unexpected, but I always like to hear the merging of disparate styles! I love the melody that comes in around 4:50.

The distorted guitars seem a little too low in the mix and the kick drum perhaps a bit too bassy and loud.

Overall, very nice. It's good to see someone trying something new and adventurous!

Very interesting and different. I love the little intro riff, it just sounds so...ethic, I think is the word. I'd like to see more stuff like this on UG for sure.

Good job with this one it's a nice change compared to a lot of the metal you hear here. The intro was my favourie part as it progressed nicely without becoming repeptitive. When the electric guitar came in I was like nice...but then it kinda dragged on for a bit - that's my only criticism, that the lead line went on for a bit too long without much change. When it did change though the riffing was excellent and the ending was perfect.

Very cool piece. I really like the chinese folk sound throughout the song. I thought the entrance of the electric guitar was a bit strange sounding initially, but as the song progresses it sounds really serene and peaceful. The section at 2:20 was really cool, that was my favorite section of the song.
The transition at 3:52 was very dramatic, and the song takes on a very frantic one with the introduction of the distorted guitars, but then everything is resolved at the end. I like this piece alot, very creative. I really wasn't expecting the metal section at the end but you pulled it off quite well and you have some very impressive skills in composition.
I would appreciate if you can take a look at my song here:

Yeah, I used 2 kinds of flute for the recording. There was a Bamboo D flute, and I also used a standard C flute.
