For a long time I've been wanting to get a Blackstar amp but my local store does not stock it. They do, however, have the Vox AC4TV stack which is cheaper than the HT-5. I realize that this is a single channel amp and doesn't get good metal tones out of the box, but will it be able to get good Metallica-type tones with a pedal in front of it? How would it then compare to the Blackstar HT-5 stack with no pedals?

So what's better for 80s/thrash metal, AC4TV w/ distortion pedal or Blackstar HT-5 stock?

Sorry if my questions come out weird , and thanks for the help

I got my HT-5 Set up today, Highly recommend it, can do metallica on high gain but I think It does need a pedal to tighten up the sound but If you want that thrash sound It's definitely doable with the HT-5. Also the ISF is pretty cool on the HT-5.

HT-5, just save for it, it's worth it.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the HT-5 can satisfy my needs very well, but I just want to know if the AC4TV can as well, with a good distortion pedal.

Any amp will do what you want if you slap enough pedals infront.

oh i'm not so sure about that.

take my current Ibanez toneblaster for example

the thing i really like about the AC4TV is the switchable wattage, so you can max out the volume at 1 watt and have an acceptable bedroom volume and it allows the tubes to reach their full potential.

I have an AC4TV and while it could with a pedal in front get to that kinda gain it isn't really suited for it. I'd only go for the Vox if you were mainly looking at getting some lower gain sounds and the Metallica gain was just secondary.
