are there any good single coil pickups?
i play more along the lines of neo-classical,thrash, technical stuff. and i need to find single coils with really good distortion. and awesome cleans.

Single-coil sized pickups? Or actual single coil pickups?

Dimarzio YJM? (Yngwie)
DiMarzio Super Distortion S
Air Norton S

Personally I hate single coils.. but if you like neoclassical you might like the Yngwie ones and the Air Norton S has amazing cleans..

Hot Rails will give you thrash but not the cleans to compare with regular singles. EMG's will give you great cleans with power but may be lacking in driving grunt. You may have to mix them to cover the bases.

The YJM is an interesting single coil. its hum canceling and extremely low output. it doesnt sound like a normal single coil.

However pair it up with a booster like the dod250 or yjm308,it gets the output volume of a humbucker. the yjm308 pedal is nice pedal for boosting single coils into the output strength of a humbucker

That said im not that big of a fan of the yjm since its so unsingle coily but thats justme

I have an EMG S, its ok with the right eq for metal, but not made for it. Mixes nice with the 81 though.

single coils.

P-90s. Normal singles don't sound right for metal.

Honestly, you should go with a stacked single or a single-sized hum. Anything else is asking for unacceptable levels of noise and feedback.

I like the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails- they have the humbucker punch in a single coil package. The guys from Maiden use em too
