Erm let me see...

Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Destroy Destroy Destroy, Hammerfall, In Flames, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Opeth, Sonata Arctica, Trivium.

I believe all of those bands are melodic.

When in a mellow mood... I listen to what I normally listen to

"Lies That Bind" by Daylight Dies. Melodeath meets Doom Metal. Beautiful blend.

If I want some mellow music, I don't really listen to metal. Maybe some Dream Theater or quieter Opeth songs, but it'll usually be Neil Young, Bon Iver, something like that.

Too bad most of those aren't metal.

Anyways, Overkill can be pretty melodic sometimes, as can Blind Guardian. Even some Megadeth is melodic.

If I'm mellowing out, I don't listen to alot of metal. Pink Floyd/other psychedelic bands are for mellowing out for me.

...What? They're Melodic Metal or Thrash Metal or Death Metal or Metalcore... all of those are Metal by definition, but whether you choose to brand them as such is a different matter.

My normal listening is Melodic Death, so I always listen to melodic stuff.

But when I'm feeling mellow I put on some Melodic Doom or whatever it's called, or some Symphonic Metal.

lolol In Flames

Anyways, uuuh, melodic metal: try out Arsis, earlier Soilwork, and The Faceless' first album.

Uhmmm just because Metal is in the title, does not make it so. Metalcore = Hardcore... bad hardcore.

Me, I'll probably listen to At The Gates or Insomnium.

I'm not even going to argue the Metalcore thing but pretty much every band he listed was melodic death metal.

Insomnium are good i do think, as are Dream Theater. But if i want to really relax i'll just listen to Explosions in the Sky.

And I named one metalcore band, if Trivium can be counted as such which I do not think they are. They are all (including Trivium) heavy metal, and melodic so I don't see the problem.

I count one band out of that list that wouldn't be accepted in the metal forum. And the metal forum is pretty picky, too.

EDIT:

Actually, if you want to get technical about it, metalcore is a fusion of hardcore and metal, and in modern metalcore there's generally a MUCH higher level of metal in the equation than hardcore, if there's any hardcore at all. How much of a hardcore influence do you hear in Trivium's music?

I can't believe I'm actually making a serious argument when you made such an ignorant and obviously uninformed statement...

Arch Enemy->
Children of Bodom->
Destroy Destroy Destroy->
In Flames->If it's new
Trivium->

Hammerfall and Sonata are pretty bad too, as well as Opeth.
