hey all

im thinking about putting in an EMG 81 into a strat i have. what i plan on doing is putting it in the bridge and keeping the hot rails i have in the bridge and put them in the middle, and keeping cool rails in the neck to get both passive and active lead sounds, and the amazing cleans and rhythm of the cool rails all in one guitar.

main question: where can the battery fit? will it fit under the emg? (its already routed for humbucker) or in the control pool? i already opened the back and it def wont fit in there behind the claw.

secondary questions: i know i need to keep the rails on the 250k volume pot, then get a 25k pot for the emg, and a stereo jack. is that all i need besides a new pickguard?

the guitar is a MIM fender strat standard.

hold on, i thought if you mix actives and passives your gonna have a huge volume difference between the two pickups

you'd get a big volume difference dude.

i'd say, change them all for active and change the pots for some 500k. But yeah....might be a bit complicated.

hmm, you could put a pre-amp in there right? just for the passives, to boost the output?

This ^

more difference between rails and stock pickups, than between actives and rails.

the rails and emg would be on different volume pots, so it should work fine. my main concern is fitting the battery....

Two things:
One - you can't use 500K pots with actives.
Two - It's not really that complicated.

EDIT: The battery isn't all that big. It should fit no problem. If you have a 9 volt laying around, try it out and see where it'll fit.

i had an 81 in my strat once and i just screwed a clip to the floor of the control cavity, under the pickguard.

something similar to this,

i would pop it off and look but thats kind of a pain. if it does fit in the control cavity that would be perfect. although right now i use a push/pull pot for the rails so that might have to go if the batter wont fit.

Okay, you can, but it's not the most pleasing tonally.
