It can be novel, short story, essay, movie, even a video game. There will be a poll but obviously I can't include every piece of speculative fiction ever made.

Fallout 3. Nuclear war

Instead of having a poll of each specific writing that portrays the future you could maybe include topics, or ideas of how the world will end up, like nuclear war or something.

Anthem, by Ayn Rand. Granted not the near future, but when we've advanced too far, something horrible will happen and we'll end up like the people in that book.

I voted Fallout, although Brave New World is also very likely to rise out of a post apocalyptic situation anyway.

Due to the ages of The Pit, fallout will win, i very seriously doubt that many people under 17 or so have even heard of Aldous Huxley.

I don't know all the works in the poll...but aren't they all dystopias? The future will only get better. Compare 1809 to 2009. Which one would you rather live?

I voted Fahrenheit 451 but fallout will probably take it cause it's a game, and this place is full of 14 year olds.

you're saying that everytime someone in the Pit fapped, they produced magic? Wow, we'd be in fucking Narnia by now by the Pit's rate of masturbation.

Is 1984 a book worth reading? I bought it and plan to start it when I'm done with Dracula, but if it's no good I don't see what's the point...

"The Pit's all 14"

We're not voting on best work of fiction, but most likely to occur.

Nuclear war is becoming all but inevitable sadly,
while censorship and constant surveillance are not.

Absolutely. Then pick up Brave New World. Just finished BNW. Both are great.

Is that so?
I graduated high school the same year you were born. There are a few old-heads in the pit.

1984 is my summer reading... School starts in like 2 weeks and I'm on page 2...

Edit: And where is "By the Waters of Babylon"?, I actually enjoyed that...

You give us young-uns too little credit, I'm 14 and I've read Brave New World.

How is 1984 winning. A brave new world seems to be much more accurate. I think it is just because more people have read 1984.

Eh, I don't see how BNW could possibly happen. I mean unless it was a very slow progression, but I think people would be instantly up in arms about stopping traditional pregnancies, family, art, religion, etc. I just don't see how it could all be taken away and put on an assembly line like that. It just doesn't seem realistic to me, but who knows, maybe people really wouldn't see it.

EDIT: Not to mention the technology it would take, manufacturing people and the like. And the wonder drug soma, although that wouldn't be so bad.

Even if it doesn't happen exactly the same or to that extent, I believe we are more on track for that future than the one depicted in 1984. But then again, you never know, Fallout could be the most accurate.
