im looking to replace the tubes in my amp but im not completely sure which kinds i should get (i know i need 4 12ax7s an 4 el34s) i havent looked into preamp tube yet but i was thinking about getting JJ's for the power tubes

im mainly looking to make my amp sound darker, have more gain, and tighten it up more. i dont know if a tube swap can do all of that but i do know that my amp needs the tubes to be changed pretty badly

It has mullards. I've heard alit of bad things about mullards reliability and after using them I kind of agree

I have had nothing but great experience with the Mullard reissues. The Sovtek EL84's are fine choices if your totally against Mullard. The JJ's are nice as well, but they tend to be a bit brittle sounding when pushed to the max in my amp when compared to the others. I think the Mullard sounds the best of all the EL84's I've used. At least in my amp anyways.

Is it el34 or el84 you're after? You said el34 in the OP, everyone else is talking about el84's.

If it is EL34's you want I would try out the JJ E34L or the JJ KT77.

In that case definately check out the JJ E34L which is a bit tighter than a standard EL34, or the JJ KT77 which is again tighter sounding than a standard EL34 and it has about 20% more headroom. The E34L and KT77 are a direct swap for your EL34's and only require a rebias.

Ok, another option is the Winged C EL34, but they are quite a bit more expensive.
