I have $250 to blow on a pedal. But I like playing everything (Blues, metal, funk, jazz, etc). So I looked at all the types of effects and lowered my option down to 4 effects. Overdrive, Synth, Distortion, or Chorus. I need some advice on what pedal I should buy. I would rather only spend $150 on a pedal but if I need to I'll use the whole $250. I've only owned 2 pedals in the past (They were cheap and died ) so I'm a noob at pedals.

So if you could, please list some pedals and there prices (maybe a link).

Update:

Well I just remembered I need a case for my new bass so I need to take off $60 of my budget. So I'm at $200 (Give or take).

after looking Through some websites and reading your posts I think I'm going to get 2 pedals

DigiTech Bass Chorus:
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-DOD-XBMC-LIST

And some other pedal :\

so I'll have $110-$120 to buy an Overdrive or a Synth

I was looking at:

Ibanez Synth
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-IBA-TLSB7-LIST

Ibanez Overdrive
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-Tone-Lok-PD7-Phat-Hed-Bass-Overdrive-Pedal-150234-i1124244.gc

DigiTech Synth
http://www.guitarcenter.com/DigiTech-XBW-Bass-Synth-Wah-Effects-Pedal-101911741-i1124373.gc

And a DigiTech Overdrive
http://www.guitarcenter.com/DigiTech-XBD-Bass-Driver-Overdrive-Pedal-101911824-i1124372.gc

Any thoughts on these pedals?

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

Digitech RP350 or RP355. Single pedals are better, but more expensive collectively.

i've say get an overdrive or distortion pedal and maybe a chorus pedal...

The boss ds-1 below is a distortion pedal.. But it isn't heavy distortion.. just a crunchy kind that would be good for certain blues songs

Boss DS-1

For a chorus pedal i'm not to firmiliar with them as i have never really used them

pure win.

I'd say get an overdrive & a fuzz, maybe a chorus too if you have the money left. As for what pedals to try out, I love the tone I get from my Ashdown LoMenzo Hyperdrive, so you might want to try that out, also look into a Tube Screamer, or Digitech Bad Monkey (or any of it's modded counterparts). Although for Fuzz, you might want to try out a Chunk Systems Brown Dog (very nice gated fuzz) or a Muff of some type, to get an idea what you like.

Looked some more and found these 3 I can get:

Boss ODB3 Bass Overdrive:
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-BOS-ODB3-LIST

Ibanez SB7 Bass Synthesizer:
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-IBA-TLSB7-LIST

Digitech Bass Multi Chorus:
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-DOD-XBMC-LIST

I can get all 3 of these, any opinions on them?

I'm gessing if I have an overdrive I dont need a distortion?

Here's my two cents /pence on two of these pedals (which I own). Boss ODB3 is a very fuzzy OD pedal. If you are looking for Overdrive, there are better pedals (Fulltone for one). However, the Digitech Chorus is wonderful and for the price is a great chorus pedal for bass. Some find it a bit sterile sounding (its not warm) but its very versatile in a variety of genres.

Ok so I'll put the chorus on my list and take the boss off...

So My thoughts are now:

Most likely:
DigiTech Chorus

And Maybes on:

Ibanez Synth

Ibanez Overdrive?

Hate to be predictable, but are you really best off sinking that money into a pedal as opposed to putting it towards a new bass/amp?

Anyway.

If you don't know what you want you can certainly get a few very good pedals for that budget, but if you're completely set on a certain effect then for that money you can get a serious pedal. The sansamp obviously comes highly recommended. Depending on what you want you might even be able to get a Wooly Mammoth for that kind of budget.

That is simultaneously brilliant and obscene. I honestly don't know if I despise, or admire you.

synth is fun to play with.. But its not completely practical in most music. And overdrive is nice and really useful

I just got a new bass, new guitar, and a new amp.

And I went down to guitar center and they had a nice deal on a Boss overdrive pedal if I bought a case with it, so i spent $200 for a case and the Boss ODB-3 overdrive. Sorry anarkee for not taking your advice, but I like it.

Thanks for the advice.

Hah, can't say fairer than that then!

By case I assume you mean a guitar/bass case, in which case (lol) that sounds like a fair enough deal if you like the pedal.

If you're going to get a cheap synth I would go with the Digitech over the Ibanez
