This squier telecaster I want to buy says it has a maple neck with a polyeurethane finish. Is this the standard finish for maple necks that gives it that silky smooth feel, or is it the painted kind of look?
Also, if it is the painted kind, can I just sand this down and restain it to get the smooth neck?

I have a Squier Affinity Telecaster and the neck is wonderfully smooth. I find it doesn't get sticky like my SG either.
