I am 17 and have never really gone to parties. There is one coming up and I want to go. However I don't know whether to ask my parents or just go? My mom wants to know where I am at all times so I don't know if I should lie and hope she doesn't peruse it. So which should I do ask permission or just go?
#3
My advice: Lie your ass off.

You: Hey mom, I'm gonna go out with some buddies. We're gonna drive around for a bit, so I may lose service.
Mom: Ok dear, have fun.
*you leave the house and turn your phone off*
You: LET'S GET ****IN' WASTED!!!

Dude. I had the same problem, I hope you're luckier than I am. I lied my ass off, and somehow my mom found out. So I'd say not tell her, but tread carefully.

I wouldn't recommend lying, at 17 you should be allowed. Tell her you and a few friends are hanging out at ____'s house (the party.) Tell her it's a friends birthday if you must tell her it is a party..I don't see why she would mind, her biggest fears will probably be - he will get drunk and drive home, he will drink, he will do drugs. Just assure her you just want to go to the party and be social, you won't get into any of the debauchery like the other kids...just have a few beers don't get wasted.

In one year you can die because a guy in a suit 1000 miles away wants more oil. I'd say going to a party is your damn deserved right.

Idk about your parents but when I was living at home I was always upfront and honest about where I was going and what I'd be doing. My parents appreciated the honesty amd felt secure knowing where I'd be.I always made sure I had a designated driver or a couch to sleep on.They never had to worry about me stumbling home drunk at 3 in the morning and trying to sneak in,then lying to their faces as I stood sh*t faced in the kitchen.

My advice would be to just be honest. What's more important, the trust of the people that gave birth to you and raised you or some party?

Lucky.....

Half the time, if I even ask "Uh... Dad.... Bryce is having a party, can I go over their? I'll even come home before 11." I get grounded for a week.

It's funny how the discussions always take place in the kitchen. I remember I came home and I was really stoned from smoking weed. My parents told me to come up stairs to the kitchen. They said "are you high?" and I was so stoned I was like "...no...yeah, I am"

But I agree with that post 100% Anytime I went to a party or event I always told my parents and I never did anything to get in trouble while I was out. Because of me being honest and not getting into trouble, they trusted me and would even sometimes give me money in case I wanted to buy food or anything.

Try asking and saying "I'm going to a friends party. I just want to play some guitar hero and have fun with some people. Maybe I might meet a girl there or some new friends"

I'm so ****ing cool and hardcore, oh yeah I drink, and I brag about it on an internet forum, a few more brewskis over here bro!!!

Anyway, what I'd suggest is being up front. Your parents were 17 once too, they'll more than likely be cool with it. Parties aren't all that great anyway, I'd personally prefer to hang out with closer friends than go to a party, they're just essentially magnets for cops and are usually asking to be busted.

same here. i cant go anywhere without my parents being all like "WHERE THE **** DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING!!??" well not so yell-ish, but u know. if i was to say im just going for a drive, my dad would be like "way to waste gas, save money for HGOUGLWbgi;lawehrgjad;ier"

but anyway, just tell them you're goin to hang out at a friends house with other friends.

one time i was going to spend the weekend at a friends house, with no parental supervision, and my mom was so reluctant to let me go. so to let her know things are ok, i had her call my friends parents to know whats going on, and she felt so much better, and i went. all we did was watch tv, play vid games, and that crap. no porn or any parties or anything, just hangin out. and we're 17, we suck at living...shutup!!

THIS.

Madden games with buddies>getting wasted with strangers.

Trust me, they do things if you pass out. I've seen it. Not pretty. Hell, they do things to you while you're awake. Then the cops show up and everyone scatters.

Well, I mean if you're going to drink or smoke would you prefer to spend the high with close friends or in a loud almost obnoxious enviornment? Parties are highly overrated.

Permission? Nah. Just tell them where you're going. Simple, really.

And lying? Really, just no.

I am a minimalist in terms of information I pass on to my parents. They are not overbearing regarding where I am, though. Just say your going out with friends, over whomevers house it is your going (to party at). Don't be overly stupid, though, while you are there. The problem with not fully informing a parent who is overbearing is that if you do something stupid they will inevitably find out. If you hear the cops are called, the best thing for you to do is leave. Most parties suck anyways, unless your willing to drink. I have on occasion, however I don't really hit it that hard. In reality, a party is really nothing more than a social outing with your friends (and a lot of strangers).

ask permission...

just sit down with her and say "im 17, this is what happens. kids party.. i can lie and sneak out.. or we can be serious about this. and well both be responsible"

and then you two will have a real cool relationship.

This is what I'd do when i'd go to parties before I was allowed.

"Mom i'm going to my (insert friend's name)'s house."
"Okay what are you going to do there?"
"Oh I'm probaby just going to get intoxicated to the point where I can't walk."
"Ha yeah right, you're so funny. Have fun"

The last line isn't word for word but she used to think I was joking, when in fact I was telling the truth. I just made it seem like I was joking when I said it.

EDIT: I never did stupid **** though. I don't go to parties that are sure to get busted, and I never drink and drive.
