Decided on Saturday, I needed a couple guitars to take with me to a show next weekend on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Im leaving Thursday night, so thats 13 days total. 2 guitars. Dunno if I will make it, but worth trying. Still have to finish spraying four other guitars, and assemble three in that time...

I decided after the USA trip we need to do less crappy repair work. The money is ok, but it's as boring as hell. I'd rather just build guitars. So, people either pay 2, 3, or 4 times more for some repair work (to make it worth doing!) that I dont want to do anyway, or, we just don't take that work on (and i get to build more, which is better...). Seems to be working so far...

Ok, specs...

Twin 1 (its a girl!)
Tasmanian Blackwood body and neck, with a flame maple top. Ebony fretboard, Paua inlays, and Jumbo fretwire. Pigtail alloy bridge, Gotoh machineheads, and some Ormsby Handwound Humbuckers...

Twin 2 (the boy!)
Tasmanian Blackwood body and neck, with an Indian Rosewood fretboard. Mother of pearl inlays, and Jumbo fretwire. Pigtail alloy bridge, Gotoh machineheads, and some Ormsby Handwound Humbuckers...

One will look all pretty and bling with the fancy top, the other is a workhorse. One glossed/satin, the other entirely satin.

Ok, lets start... Saturday 1st August, 2pm

Laminated necks for these ones...

Regards,
Perry Ormsby

Wednesday.... neck joints. Forgot to take photos, oops...

Thursday.... pickup routs, wiring channels...

Neck 1...

the old "Ormsby Neck Test" or whatever you call it

Wow, productive day. 18 hours total so far over five days. Twin 2 will have its neck shaped tomorrow, then glued in. Twin 1 will get stained and lacquered.

Im thinking a nice sunburst blue colour for the flame top.... maybe with Zebra pickups??? Chrome covered humbuckers for Twin 2 which wont have a top??? Maybe the other way around?

Ive just done a blue maple top, so kinda want to do something else, but blue is popular... here is the last one i did (build thread coming real soon!). Shall I do something similar?? Or, something different?

Regards,
Perry Ormsby

If Twin 2 is a girl, then it should pink/purple/something girly

I'd suggest some really deep sexy black and purple on one and maybe some color changing automotive flake orange to green kinda thing?

Man ive been waiting forever for another ormsby build! I love the twin double cuts. I think you should dye it black, sand back then a light red.

Well no, do a dark red haha
#15
I love it! you should, in my opinion, do yellow and black, make this a wasp kinda thing. what I thought of when I saw the pictures anyways. if you can make a honeycomb design on the inside of the tummy cut, that'd add to it. I'd suggest hex inlays, but you did those circular already... oh well...

great build though, keeping my eyes out.

I say you should do the flamed top one in a black and electric blue finish (amp can style) with blue stain on the flame and a black basecoat. I'd post a pic of what I meant if I were on a computer.

Maybe a green-blue burst like Carvin's dragonburst would be nice... I suppose it's kind of like the Shark maybe? It's my favorite finish ever.

Can't wait to see these builds progress!

Lime green to yellow burst? You know, green edges, yellow on the inside.

Always thought that would look cool. Or do purple. You don't see that as much and it looks good.

I reckon we'll just do this one blue....

no wasp?

one day... I will find the right wood... try it myself...

staining isn't too tricky, right? just a few don'ts, patience, and care?

White? Like wedding dress white that allows you to see the grain? Add some binding, and some ornamental flower inlays, and you have a guitar that looks pretty in a feminine way, but wont turn away any guys at all.

What's it like to work with?

Also, blue will look great, but just a while ago you finished a DC with a blue flamed top. We want something different!

EDIT: ^ the guy that ordered that bass is much more than a bassist!

Ok, leave the bass questions for the bass thread fellas. Its coming soon. Im not going to respond to questions unless they are about the instruments in the thread title. Cool?

Friday arvo...

Did some more sanding to twin 1, then stained the top.

I like that blue. But, I also like sunbursts that arent the standard old yellow into red, or tobacco bursts, etc. So....

Will need to sand twin 2 tomorrow, then start oiling. Twin 1 will get some more clear on the top.

When I saw the neck I was like Wuh? Hasn't he already shaped the neck. Then I remember, there's two

It's looking real nice so far.

You should have done Qld Maple top for the girl and gidgee or ironwood or something for the fretboards and they could've been the aussie twins

EDIT: Didn't see the stain. i thought that maybe it wouldn't seem original enough with another blue stain on a DC. But the burst makes it look so much better, you have once again failed to disappoint

Yeah we spent an hour discussing colours. This one will PROBABLY be hanging on the wall next to the Blue DC I did last year, if not, then the Shark. People love blue, but I didnt want two the same. I loved the KG bass colour, and so did everyone who saw it, so I knew that burst combo was a winner...

I have also just sprayed a standard yellow/red sunburst, and a copper/brown burst, AND a lavender/purple burst, so I was ready for blue again. NEARLY went with a yellow to green burst, and even had red/purple/blue burst on the cards too...
