my computer mic plugs into my usb, but whenever i plug it in, my laptop crashes. im trying to use it to record stuff on audacity. i have a dell with windows xp vista, any help or suggestions would be great

Don't know much about these sort of things, but it might overload your soundcard and/or CPU.
Gear:
Some sort of guitar, of some sort.
Another one
Big amp
Small amp
A pedal
A pedal again
Some kind of box that goes into the computer.. Haven't figured out its function yet.

Go to the microphone's manufacturer's website and/or google it and install the drivers for the device. Incorrect/corrupt drivers can actually crash a system (I know this for a fact since I screwed up my video card drivers and got a BSoD seconds into loading the OS)
