So basicly I play a lot of Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Guns, Def Lep, and 80s stuff and ive narrowed my search for a new amp to these two.

I just wanted UGs opinion on which I should go for.

CGB don't jump to conclusions.

I've owned a AOR and I have played 800s extensivley. Depending on where you are gonna be playing I suggest the AOR over the 800. they sound great, have more gain and are quieter and easier to get loud with out making your ears bleed. they are less reliable though.

Thats the anoying part I could get either at the moment, admitedly the marshall would be more expensive but they always are.

Id only be playing small gigs at clubs etc and practicing in my garage, also It would be nice to be able to flick between higher gain 80s stuff like Motley, Ratt etc but probrably more important is an Alice Cooperish/ Guns tone.

Well then I'd get the AOR. It's an amazing amp from what I hear and it's PERFECT for what you play. Also it will suit those situations better, teh Marshall is VERY loud!

It'll do Slash just fine. I'm not sure about Perry.

the laney that I could get would be 100 watts though and I was wondering would I be able to turn it down and still get good tone?

Nah don't get the 100 watter. It is WAY too loud. I gig with an 18watt tube amp and it's more than ehough!

if you'll be playing with a lot(and i mean a lot) of volume, go with the jcm800. otherwise id say go for the aor

get a cheap marshall... my MG15DFX has a button that simulates the sound of one of the expensive tube marshall amps.

Jcm 800 would only be a 4210 or 4212 whilst the only AOR I can get is 100 at the moment.
I wont need 100 watts obviosly but would it still be a better buy?

*unrelated* ....Wished I'd had the cabbage a few months back, there was a AOR100 on my local Craigslist for $250!

Basicly the Laney I can get now is a 100 watt series 2 AOR, it would be really easy for me to pick up and afford, only problem is its 100 watt so will I need an Attenuator to get a cranked tone out of it? The Marshall on the other hand is further away and more expensive but as its a 4212 its only a 50 watter.

Indeed but it'l be more acceptable at 50 watts or even if I have to use an attenuator, fact is all the AORs are with 6v6s at 30 watts (the lowest they go) not el34s and the lowest Marshall can find at the moment is 50 watts.

dont be fooled by wattage. the volume difference are negligible. wattage is headroom. even then, a 50 watt jcm800 has the same amount of headroom as a vtm120.

what is your primary use for the amp? bedroom playing, gigging, jamming, etc?
