EMG's really aren't that great... Can't go wrong with the Invader dude, nice cleans, crazy crunch.

You don't/shouldn't buy pick ups for the sake of buying them. They are to tweak your tone, not to reinvent it. What is wrong with your tone now that you want to change? And I'm going to give you a heads up, that when your going to swap your pups you won't notice as big of a difference as you would like with the Spider

I was thinkin about gettin one. But i have read many bad reviews.
How does the invader perform with high gain?

Yeah you'll need to upgrade your amp to see more of a difference. I had a regular SA series ibanez and a vox ad15. I got an NJ series warlock and really there was little to no difference. Get a better amp before getting new pickups.

Don't get the Invader. It's terrible and sounds like mud. I've played one in a Schecter.

Get a new amp, don't replace pickups. Your amp is not the worse of the Spiders, but it still sucks.

What is your budget, and where do you live so I can help you on Craigslist to help you find a new amp.

If you really want pickups though, get Dimarzio's/Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz. Avoid actives because you have a solidstate amp.

I have a Seymour Ducan JB in my Jackson Kelly, and you're right- it can do metalcore.

My mistake.

Sell your Spider and MetalMuff, you won't be needing them if you are to get a new amp.

How much did you pay for when you bought the MetalMuff/Line 6 Spider II?
#16
I'd say get a new amp as well, but if you still want to go with new pickups, then I would recommend the SD Jazz. I play with the SD Jazz on the neck and a Gibson 496r on the bridge. I play mostly metal as well, and I always use the SD pickup. the 496 is way too hot for my liking.

Sell those, and you'll have a budget of like $375-420 which is a lot better then $200. Try to get at least $400.

Where do you live? You'll will have to really search on Craigslist, but it's possible.

This is your best bet- try to get by selling your current amp and your Metalmuff. You might be able to talk it down too.

http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/msg/1300503728.html

This amp might be able to do gigging not sure. Great amp though:

http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/msg/1304788324.html

Here's another good amp, but it's for practicing at home, not gigging

http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/msg/1280587740.html

That's all I could really find, but keep your eyes peeled on it.

Was it mahogany? The Invader sounds good in bright guitars, ass in dark guitars. It's the anti-JB.
No gods, no countries, no masters.
More guitar, less Ultimate-Guitar.

IMHO EMG's (18V mod of course ) slay invaders on every level. In mahogany guitars and brighter guitars.

I'd take an EMG81 (18V mod or not) over an Invader or a JB.

I'm just saying JB + bright guitar = painfully bright, Invader + dark guitar = muddy mess.

this. it sounds decent in alder wood, but pure muddy mess in mahagony. although i'd prefer other pickups to the invader, its decent in a bright wood
I traded in my Real Books for Robbins and Cotran Pathology Textbooks

You're in for a disappointment if you think running any pickup through a line 6 spider will make it sound any better.

Saving your money to get a new amp would probably be wiser.

Yeah, it was mahogany.

Its not mahogany or alder though- if hes putting it into the JS RR, its probably Indian Cedro....

Anyway- A pup upgrade in an entry level guitar isn't a bad idea... I like the Seymour Duncan Distortion...its a good balanced pup that leans towards the lead side of things

hmm...this is a mystery indeed. This has been bugging me awhile anywho-

well Cedro is spanish for ceder...and apparently they use the wood in classical guitars...so I am hoping that solves that...

anyway- a pup upgrade in an entry level jackson is always a good idea
