I've been looking at this pedal a bit now, haven't got a chance to use one. Its in my budget, so would it be any good for an indie sound?

A lot of people will bash this pedal. If you do buy one, try finding a used one that's made in Japan (vs the new crappy ones made in Taiwan).

for indie i dont think you need toooo much gain. umm maybe an OD? are you specifically looking for a distortion?

It's actually not THAT bad of a pedal.

However, if you can, I would recommend saving up like 50 more bucks. That will open a lot more options.

The Hipkitty Oxblood Distortion gets some really great indie sort of tones.

But if you want to pay a bit less, the Proco Rat is popular.

Just a kinda light gain sound, I honestly haven't a clue whether it's Distortion or Overdrive I'm looking for, kinda new to effects. Really just looking for something as a boost for solo's rather than going to the amp and turning gain a small bit up

For some reason I find mine sounds 300% better in the effects loop

DS-1 is garbage on its own, but if you can get a keeley modded one you can get some great modern sounds out of it.

I know its waaaaaaay out of your budget, but I would say try an OCD or a BB Preamp. They are both fantastic for adding a bit of dirt to your sound.

an unmodded DS1 might be a bit too high gain for indie.look into an overdrive pedal.personally i like the ibanez tubescreamer
