Hey so my birthday is coming up pretty soon, and my parents are willing to spend up to $500 on me. I've been searching around a lot, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for the Alexi-200.

I'm play a lot of stuff like Children of Bodom, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, Megadeth, Pantera, Metallica, etc. I don't mind the pickup that's already in it because I'm going to swap it out for a Seymour Duncan Invader. The lack of a neck pickup doesn't bother me an aweful lot, as I don't frequently use it and I already have 2 guitars with a humbucker in the neck and the bridge. Is this worth the money? Or is there something thats going to work for me a lot better?

If your set on that guitar i would suggest the next model up 600 i believe, I would see if you can find a great condition used one first, just mainly the higher up models tend to use better woods, electronics, hardware's

to me, the only reason not to get the guitar would be the lack of a neck pickup, but if it doesnt bother you, then go try it out, see how it plays before you buy, and make ur decision on that

I've defiantly heard a lot about how the wood on the 200 is sort of cheap and it won't last me long. I would much rather have the 600, except I don't have very much money to work with

I bought one a year ago. loved it. it came out of the box perfectly in tune. I didn't have to fine tune it for a month after playing it daily.

this was my first esp/ltd guitar, after owning Ibanez, PRS, Epiphone, BC Rich, etc...and I felt the neck on this was a near perfect balance between leads and rhythm.

the tone is certainly geared for metal. the cleans aren't very good. the overdrives are pretty big.

thats why i suggested looking for a great condition used one, be it a music store, craigs list, e-bay

K. I think I could even go for a slightly roughed up one too, if it were to save me more money

If you must have a new guitar.... check out these. Fits your budget and styles... (unless you must have a FR)

My main question to you...

Why would you put an invader into another guitar if you already have a guitar with an invader?

You'll have two pretty identical sounding guitars...

I'd save up to about $800. Much higher quality woods, hardware, electronics, craftsmanship, and everything! Plus it'll last longer. Lots longer.

But if money is a problem and you like V's so much, I'd suggest looking at the Washburn WV40V... Washburn makes good quality guitars, especially for their cheap prices.

Besides, the WV40V has the Buzz Fe... Fi...? Feiten Tuning System.

I do really love schecters but yeah the FR is sort of a necessity for me. I can't live without my divebombs and what not

The Alexi is a Rhoads knockoff. I'd buy the RR3...the japanese Jacksons are better anyway

I play with a lot of midrange, so that whole muddy and undefined-ness is not a problem for me at all. And like I said, I'm just fine as far as an amp goes. However, I went to guitar center today and they did not have the Alexi 200 or any Alexi model. I tried out a bunch of different guitars and now I'm dead set on Schecters. I should have trusted my instincts with my Omen 6

Are you able to try an Ibanez S320? Great trem and reliable although the neck is a love or hate affair.

I'd suggest a new amp first, and then reconsider your choice of an Invader because they're kind of muddy and undefined. I have yet to hear someone make it sound decent.

Synyster Gates uses Invaders, and he has the greatest tone ever.

However he also uses a sustainiac, loads of expensive effects and a Bogner Uberschall, which is the greatest amp ever made.

I thought they [a7x] moved to JCM800's. Still a good chance he uses the Uberschall backstage.

If you are willing to go used, MIJ Jackon's RR3 like stated eariler will defiently be a better option. They are similar shape and I am assuming thats why people want these alexi's.

I think they still use Bogners, but just have JCMs onstage.
