Hey, Ug...
About a week ago, I posted some questions on the Mesa Bass 400+...well, I bought it for 525 USD off of Craigslist. And, I couldn't be more happier...

One thing I noticed, on my Genz 1200w Mosfet amp...I used to crank the EQ on my bass and it sounded mean! Like it hurt.... On this amp, it sounds like **** rubbed in my face! Too muddy, too distorted and too Lamb of God-ish...Now, the"each to his own", I know, I know...it won't work on me. I absolutely abhor bass distortion.

Good news! I lowered my bass EQ and it came out clear as day. Punch, growl, and just a touch of grit and girth. It's absolutely phenomenal. I can even bypass my eq and run the bass passive...still loud.

So here's some old school bass porn...
(Sorry for the large pics)

Btw, there is a story behind this amp...When it was originally bought direct from mesa, the serial code was registered to some guy...his name was Justin Chancellor.

Sweet looking thing, good story about the original owner too that sounds pretty awesome.

However, i do have a question.

Its got a Master and two volume knobs ... umm ... why is that???

It has seperate channels...channel one is a lower gain channel and channel 2 has a higher db boost to it. Think of it like a vox ac30...OD and clean channels. Unfortunatly...if i wanted to switch quickly...i would need an A/B box and 2 more cables...no footswitch for this baby....

Ahh, thanks for the answer there . That seems like it would be pretty handy.

Shame about the needing extra stuff that didnt come with it though.

May be a good idea to check out the condition of the Valves/Tubes, different types/models produce different output tones, preamp Valves/Tubes also have differering characteristics and can change you overall sound immensely.
When changing Valves/Tubes re biasing is often needed.

You might be overdriving the pre-amp tubes when you crank your EQ

I think you need to stop caring what people think about it. I stayed home all day today and masturbated like 5 times. Fucking blast.

the 100 is too muddy. I prefer to really let my Thumb have a more midrange growl and bite. Even if i let the 100's do all the work, and cut the 40's...it still gets poop.

This amp has a fixed bias...so i will replace the tubes in pairs every two weeks for the next 12 weeks. ugh...lovely. And I tested the pre tubes...only about a month old. Straight from Mesa...12ax7's. I am considering going to a 12au7 instead for less distortion.

Yes the Eq was off at that time to test all of your observance skills. Nah...the eq on this amp is hot...like it adds a serious amount of volume and gain to the overall mix...and I was taking those pics at 1am...

Anyways, thanks all for the gratz's....I hope to get legitimate sound clips up before the end of the month.
