Do Set-In Necks have Bolts on the back as well? Such as the Ibanez BTB455? Cuz I thought that was supposed to have a Set-in Neck but I see Bolts in the back... I'm confused, or stupid?

Neck-Thru means it's all one piece of wood.

Well, I know what a Thru-Neck is. Set-ins are usually just glued in, but this Bass I saw that's claimed in be a Set-in also has bolts on the back. Unless the BTB455 isn't actually a Set-in.

Yeah, that's what I thought... Either this Bass I'm lookin at isn't actually a BTB455, although it sure as heck looks like one. Or else the Description on websites is wrong...

I just noticed that the Pickups on the BTB455 are Bartolini MK1s, but in the pictures the Pickups just say Ibanez on it.

The Barts on Ibanezes are specifically designed for Ibanez and have Ibanez on the casing as far as I'm aware.

Well on the newer models with the MK2 they say Bartolini on them, so I thought the MK1s might have been the same.

Mine have Bartolini written on them. (sr700 [mk-1] and btb675 [mk-2])

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

Umm, no.

Neck-thru means that the pickups and the bridge are on the same piece of wood as the fretboard.

I though it meant the body and neck were one piece of wood, cause people talk about not being able to fix a neck-thru if the neck snaps- like they can't just replace it.

I actually just saw that picture as well and was gonna mention it. Haha. So I would say that this IS a legit BTB455 right? Also, does the BTB455 have a 35" Neck?

Yeah, all BTBs are 35" scale, that's like their defining feature. That and the not quite fugly body shape.

just for the record, that bass has a bolt-on neck. a set neck is excactly what Ben said, dove tail joint, glued in place. a neck-through is one piece of wood through the entire length of the bass. they add "wings" using glue, to make the body. you can repair a broken set or neck-through but, you can't replace them.
