So Im wanting to learn a few Mastadon songs but theyre in "odd" time signatures. I unfortunatelly dont know squat about time signatures. The song Im learning is "Divinations" off of their new album. The time signature is 12/8 so would that mean I count 12 beats and I accent the note on every 8th beat?

You see this is why it's wrong to rape your guitar... in public.

I want to name an invention the Insta-gasm 3000. I feel very strongly about this.

The best tip I can give you is think of it as triplets.. The easiest way to go about a 12/8 pattern without thinking too hard... You can hear it as 123 123 123 123 before the next bar (or 4 sets of triplets..)
such as :

1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3
1 2 3 4

This is easy to hear on the track (especially at the begginging of the distrorted guitars)
There's a good chance that what I've written above is useless and if you take any of the advice it's your own fault.
