So I have been checking out this Rally guitar which seems to be some kind of copy of a Washburn wi model and has a similar shape to the Vintage LP copies. It is pretty sweet, spec on this website claims its swamp ash but other sources tell me its Mahogony. I have heard a lot of people say the build on these guitars is AMAZING! but the electronics are pooooooop! But! I plan on replacing the pickups with an EMG ZW set which comes with pretty much all new electronics bar 2 pots, solving the problem of the lame elecs.

I really dig whatadrag's Epi faded SG w/ EMG's and think this Rally would look and sound awesome after customising to a similar spec (EMG's, reflector knobs, etc)

Here are links to the guitar and whatadrags G400, tell me what ya think, M.

EMGs have a tendency to 'ignore' or 'hide' what the guitar actually sounds like more than non-active pickups. The reason being is that rather than being a simply high-wound pickup, they are a low-wound pickup with a preamp.

You will achieve similar (though not identical) sonic results from the guitar as most other swamp ash guitars with EMGs. Your mileage may vary applies here.

All in all, if EMGs are what you're after, it becomes slightly less important what the guitar is made of than with other pickups. So then you are faced with the big decision; how does the guitar play? How does it feel? If you like the feel of the guitar and the sound of most other EMG-equipped guitars, then go for it.

Pretty but what sort of price are they? There's a lot of people starting to compete with Vintage but Wilkinson pups are very authentic sounding. Look up T C Ellis guitars, too.
I pick up my guitar and play

yeah man if you want EMGs go for it.... you already have them in your Epi so if you like them, use them again... I have 5 guitars and 4 of them have EMGs so... I like them too

Why not just get a real washburn, they're roughly the same price and sound awesome without havin' to be modded?
