I've had a quick search and havent found anything similar (feel free to prove me wrong and I'll get this thread closed )

The basic idea is this...
Someone posts a small list of things that they are wanting from a song/band, the next person to post leaves the previous person a link to youtube (or any other video website) to a song that they think that person was wanting to hear

I'll get things started

I would like something that includes:
. A "funky" bass line
. Nice clean guitaring
. And a cool guitar solo
. Nothing by RHCP though (I am already a HUGE fan and want something a little bit different)

EDIT: Just noticed I spelt "Thread" wrong

One of my favourite solos of all time is Hot Chip - Over and Over, though it isn't guitar...

I'd like some progressive metal that doesn't focus on being prog (a la mastodon rather than porcupine tree) with decent (read: not-like-metallica) lyrics and bearable singing (no growling/screaming)

There's actually been several of these under wildly varying names, but hopefully if it takes off we can finally get an ONLY thread out of it.

Have you listened to Zero Hour or OSI yet?

I search some Pearl Jam like songs, either like Alive or Black.

I'd like some bands i don't know yet with beautiful melody lines and epic fantasy stories, preferably metal but for example celtic or folk music is okay too. (I already know Rhapsody of Fire)

Just repeating my post because we're already on page 2 and people are likely to miss mine.

As a side note, this thread is a really good idea.

Slightly off topic, but I was sitting here on the Pit and people were saying how amazing John Petrucci is. Never really listened to any of Dream Theaters music but decided to download there new album and their greatest hits...

It's more indie/folk really, but The Decemberists' songwriter has a degree in creative writing and a lot of their songs are stories.

check here!

I need some more thrashy bands. Nothing with vocals like Overkill or Kreator. Good strong guitar work, good structure, and i'd like to hear some more bass.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Xentrix, or Sodom maybe... Oh, and i dunno if Wolfpack Unleashed counts, but i like their sound too.

With some more bass, eh? Well, that's tricky in Thrash.

I'd recommend:
Warpath
Death (not thrash, but very thrashy and the bass comes through in their mid period).
Mutant
Mortal Sin
Sabbat - absolute sheer brilliance
Skeletonwitch - they're a must
Sacrifice - Soldiers of Fortune is a superb album, a harder edged Xentrix, if you will.

Now, I would like some relatively melodic Death Metal with some crushing riffs and harmonies, possibly some folk influence - along the lines of Opeth's first three albums.

In Flames.
I'm not sure which albums most people would consider 'melodic death' but I like Come Clarity

I'd like something with deep, meaningful lyrics, maybe in the vein of Brand New music-wise, but different enough that it doesn't seem like I'm just listening to the same thing over and over. Some good guitar work is nice, but no endless wankery.

Edit: Also, modern music would be preferable. Nineties at the absolute earliest.

In terms of lyrics, Okkervil River, Neutral Milk Hotel and Bright Eyes stand out for me.
