So I think we'd all agree that sound is the most important when playing guitar. But does the way it looks have an effect too? Would you feel comfortable using a razorback to play blues for example? Or would you rather use a strat or a LP instead?

I think I'd throw up in my mouth a little if I saw someone playing true blues on a Razorback.

looks for a guitar are important for me. it's usually how i try new guitars first then i go for tone, playability and price range and if it fits i buy it. i don't care what style of music i play with the guitar. i play jazz, blues and metal on my jackson rhoads.
#5
It's not THE most important, but it's definitely a factor.

+1.

Looks matter, feel matter and sound matters. The most important aspects of the guitar.

'looks' is a word not commonly used in the same sentence as 'razorback'

Are a guitar is looks important? Unnecessary apostrophes piss me off.

And no, not important, but I wouldn't play a giant turd shaped guitar.

It doesn't matter, they all sound good through my spider III.

How it looks 50% and how it sounds and feels 50%. I cant play something that looks like sh*t
#13
To some extent yes.

But if I played a fugly guitar that plays and sounds fantastic, I'd get it.

Teles look alright for metal, not a fan of RATM but I've seen morello use one

Looks are important, just like unless you live by real strict morals you'd probably have second thoughts about dating a 300kg red haired chick with braces and glasses and the rest of that stereotype thing
#18
The sound is more important, looks aren't, but it would still look a bit out of place on stage because no one usually uses a razorback while playing blues on stage.

Atari Jaguar FTW!

Also I like my guitars to look really crappy, that's why I only play PRS.

that guitar is made for bowing (extremely short fretboard radius and whatnot) so probably not, it does look cool though.

It matters, but not a lot - I would be surprised if I saw someone playing blues on a razorback. I would ask to try it - sound is more important though!
#21
When playing live - yes, it's a large part of the band's image.

For recording - not really, as long as it sounds good.

Actually i'm fairly is there because the 'looks' belong to the guitar. A guitar's looks. It seems fine to me.

I find them kind of important, I wouldn't play a ridiculous looking guitar, and it does look a bit weird when you see a strat being used for heavy stuff, because I generally associate strats with softer bluesy stuff So they're a factor.
#28
Both, a guitar that looks good, but sucks is bad, a guitar looking bad and sounds good isnt good either. find the guitar that looks good and sounds good.

I was about to post the same thing.
The apostrophe appears to be correct, to me.

It's certainly not "guitars looks." The apostrophe shows the guitar's possession of the "look" and is not indicative of a contraction in this context.

Edit: I see I have been beaten to it.

Edit2: Most good guitars look good enough, anyway.

I pick a guitar on it's looks, and then see if it sounds and feels good. I wouldn't just pick up the uglyest guitar and go:

"Hmm... This might sound really good, I'm gonna try it over that original 1959 Les Paul!"

Because that would never happen. Looks are a huge factor to me as well.

Example: I wouldn't buy a guitar if it's ugly like a Warlock but also I wouldn't buy a guitar just for its shape or finish.

Ibanez 1987 Roadstar II Deluxe

Marshall JCM900 SL-X

Yes, I wouldn't want an ugly guitar, but I wouldn't have a problem using a good-looking metal guitar to play blues.
