turn all the pole pieces down in the pickups until the screws sit in the plastic and dont pop out above the holes they sit in.

this will give you and AMAZING sound. i just did it today when i was experimenting and through my cheap crate V33. holy cow the sound is way way more defined. it's like the muddyness just got lifted and it sounds sooo clear even with lots o overdrive.
Did you adjust the height of the pickups in the ring by anychance too? I'm looking for a tiny little more bite in the neck pickup.

i usually lower the neck pickup to where it just barley sits above the ring and i gauge how hight to adjust the bridge pickup by how hight the neck is.
