I've always been curious as to peoples motives. Me, I've always wanted to play an instrument and when I got into metal I figured guitar would be good. I always liked the idea of being in a band but the thing that really sealed it was the song "Never Again" by Power Quest. I know it's sad but look at the lyrics.

I always had a dream, pictures in the magazines
Want to be like all my hero's are
Will I die before I'm old; live the life of rock n' roll
Travel all the highways of the world.

And now I'm standing here, metal anthems fill the air
Playing through the songs you all wanted to hear
Without you we will fall, you're the ones who heed the call
You're the ones who make the dream come true.

that sort of thing

That and I usually only play with people I like a lot so it's another aspect of life we enjoy and embrace.

Just having fun with friends, I thought :if makeing music alone is so much fun how much better would it be if we make music together. And i was right.

Yeah, same goes for me.

I had an idea: to make music, which i enjoyed doing, and to be funny while doing it. I got my other ADD musician friends together and we started a comedy metal band. Simple as that. I'm also in another band because one of my best friends, the singer of said other band, asked me to join, and it sounded like fun.

Basically to have fun doing something i like. and if i get laid along the way, even better. Because that was always at the back of my mind.

I made a band because i found a group of guys thathad alot of talent. We all wanted a Christian band so we were all on the same page. I love writing music and lyrics and playing guitar, but it is so much better to have back up. A band needs to be as tight as brothers and they need to respect each other. But i joined to honor God with some guys who have become my best friends.
People say i'm strange, does that make me a stranger? My best friend was born in a manger.

A hundred times this. Being able to be yourself and get all your energy out on stage while making music is like a dream to me.

I did it because I'm a jealous jerk tbh.
I attended a school benefit concert and all the bands were people who attended the school. They were all TERRIBLE, yet people loved them. They weren't being nice, the crowd actually liked them. The most motivation came from a so-called "hard rock" band that played "very heavy music with an attitude". Even their name was stupid, corny, and cliche. This band played very simple music that was as heavy as Fall Out Boy. The guitar solos in the songs were sad (as in terrible), the bass lines were not even root notes, but i got to admit that the drummer was pretty good.
After that night, I told myself to start a band that will kick everyone's ass. We play anything from country to heavy metal to psychedelic sex rock. So that's why I started a band (and also because I love music and want to be like my heroes :p)

I love music. Always have. I remember as a little kid before I even had a CD player I would always have the radio on my alarm clock turned on whenever I was in my room. I joined a band because there is no greater feeling on this planet than to play the music I love, and to have people sing my band's songs back to us.

Once I'd become competent on the guitar, I didn't want to regulate my skill to a "party trick".
And no, Guitar Hero will not help. Even on expert. Really.

I just wanted to be lead singer of a band. ._.

Music really my only true passion in life, nothing else really comes close for me.

It's the only thing I can focus on and get pissed off with.

To start with it was because it was cool. That is why I picked up the guitar.

Then something clicked and I really started to 'get in' to my instrument unlike the other guys who picked up instruments at the same time who just did it to look cool. Don't get me wrong, I still wanted to be cool.

Then I grew up and although it is still 'cool' to be in a band I do it much more for myself, because I enjoy writing music with other musicians, and I get a buzz from playing live.

I wanted to make music that people enjoyed as much I enjoy it. I wanted people to involve people in the creative process. There was a bit of wanting to be like my heroes in there as well. The stage and studio is also one place where I feel like I can really be myself 100% and not be judged as a person, but as something more....a musician.

GrisKy man! Your stories always f***n' slay me! Dont ever change.

I did much the same I suppose. I was bored in 99, getting ready to ship off for Uncle Sam, and had nothing else to do but learn the guitar. It turned out that I really enjoyed it.

At first it was all about impressing chicks, and writing sappy ballads. When I got an Electric Guitar for christmas, it was on like donkey kong. The first time I jammed with a group it was the biggest rush I had ever felt. The first time I hit the stage, the first time I heard someone shout out a request, the first time I saw a fan singing along to an original, man it really dosent get any better.

Well, I think the real reason that is started playing live was because i love the feeling i get on stage. It's a feeling of power, of energy, of general awesome. I'm the only guitarist and the lead singer, and when we play it's just ****ing awesome. It makes me feel on top of the world. Depending on how things are going for me different songs in the setlist speak more to me, and i love that.

For starting guitar, i think it happened wehn I just loved watching stuff like Glastonbury on TV, and thought, "Hey, maybe I could play like that..."
Then my Guitar teacher showed me the likes of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Led Zep and the Rolling Stones. That sealed it for me.

As for the band, my friend took up guitar at the same time, so we decided we could make something of it. He switched to Bass, his brother started drumming, and we met up with our mate Simon, who was a lot more experienced. It just sort of grew from watching guitarists on the TV, thinking one day, we could be like them.

When I was a child I really had no musical inclination. I never even listened to music in my spare time and was annoyed when my father put on any of his old records. Then, at the end of eighth grade I heard a few Green Day songs and liked them and then began listening to more and more music. I borrowed a bass from my uncle and learned some pop-punk stuff and then wanted to learn Stairway to Heaven on guitar. I borrowed my friend's guitar and the my mom's boyfriend brought over a guitar for me, so I began to learn.

About a year later near the start of Grade 10 our religion teacher gave our class a group project in which we had to make a short presentation on STIs. My two friends and I decided to write some songs and video tape ourselves playing them for this project, spawning a few songs including "Abstinence", "Sterile", "I'm Addicted to Porn" and "Genital Herpes Blues".

After that we kinda just stuck to it and began playing shows. To my surprise, a number of our friends enjoyed out music (or so they claimed) and we had a (small) audience. We just stuck with it and we've been together for nearly three years now.
