I have really only been into Heavy Metal for the past two years but it has been a great time. Maiden, and Priest have changed my life. Alot of people who I talk to though complain that I listen only to the older stuff and not any of the New(No not just Nu) Metal bands out there. I'll give some of them a listen but no bands have really stuck and then it hit me.... its not Heavy Metal!!! Before you start bashing me hear me out. Back in the day there was really only one kind of metal and that was Heavy Metal but now there is Death, Grindcore, Nu, Power.... the list goes on. I get that there are different music tastes out there and I'm not bashing any of those kinds of music but does someone else wish we had back Heavy Metal? Where did it go?

Talk about oblivious...

You do realize this "era of Heavy Metal" was just as well the "era of Death/Black/Grind/Power Metal". All of them (except many -core genres and Nu metal) had begun in the 1980s; you're just too ignorant to realize this.

great observation. it's only natural that music evolves over time. for better or worse

Heavy Metal "evolved" into what is now the "metal" genres today. It's just like way back when, when blues music became rock. It's still got the same basics it's just a new genre of music. It's not that it's gone, it's just now there's been more added.

Back in the 60s the only kind of rock that was popular was Rock 'n Roll, now there's many sub-genres, just like the many sub-genres of metal.

Maiden and Preist arent Heavy Metal, ther New Wave Metal

Last time I checked NWOBHM bands were heavy metal.

And it's still there. It's just diversified. Death metal was around in the 80's believe it or not. Along with most genres of metal. It was just hiding.

Metal?
Judas Priest has a new album, don't they? Judas Priest is pretty classic metal.

Still, lately I've gotten into the prog/groove metal scene...

Also, you might want to make sure you are familiar with the following artists--

Ozzy

The Scorpions

Axe

Black Sabbath in the 80's with Dio and Ian Gillian was pretty classic 80's metal, too.

To stop the moronic replies, this, once again.

If you werent such a complete fucking retard, you would get out of your little box and do a bit of searching for some heavy metal being made this year - and you would find plenty of it. But unfortunately, you prefer to create a pointless thread. Such is life.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

Listen to Pentagram.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

SSSSOOOOOO true, really some of that turned into Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc and then into metal

What the real question is what is coming up next? It could be anything. Most of the time it seems like it is getting heavier, but I don't see how they could make their sound more heavy. Mind you that is what they used to say about NWOBHM and we are alot heavier then that now adays!!!

Lolocaust.

OP just contradicted his first post.

ever heard of a band called Cage? heavy metal with power metal (not the video game metal kind) elements.

In famous magazines, their albums got rated higher than Dream Theater's twice! (nothing against DT, I love them, just stating a fact to show that they aren't some random band).

In fact, their singer is doing guest lead vocals on my bands song for the movie "The Toxic Avenger Part 5"

But, even if Maiden influences made a major comeback. They'll only be rediculed, terrible. Like Trivium, but worse.

Then again, thats what powermetal is for.

There's still plenty of "heavy metal" bands, they're just not in the spotlight as much as Iron maiden and Judas priest were, do some digging for yourself, or ask in the recommendation thread.

Dead-fish easily kicks your arse.
Dude has a few years experience on you with dealing with UG's stupidity, plus he's just like that anyway, plus he lives in Israel and enjoys High on Fire.
I'm pretty sure even one of those is enough to make a man want to hate everything.

I was going to post in this thread but instead I masturbated to Japanese torture porn. I accidently pushed my dick the wrong way I blew a huge load in my eye and now I can't see my keyboard. It was some great porn, though.
