hello UG! first post btw

in any case, i am looking for a new guitar that is pretty cheap, but will get a nice blues tone with better pickups and a decent amp, i am looking at the epiphone valve junior as an amp, but could be perseuded otherwise, i play in the middlespace of a jazz/funk/blues venn diagram

i need some more opinions before i buy something i won't be satisfied with

Amp seems like it would suit you pretty nicely, but we need a budget really to find a guitar for you.

Of the top of my head from you want to play, a Fender Telecaster seems ideal...

Look at the Fender Made in Mexico Telecasters and the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster.

Don't be fooled by the name, the Squier is excellent.

The CV's are simply excellent. I'm seriously considering getting a Sonic Duo for myself.

i was thinking around 200-300-400 dollars. i have seen the classic vibe series and adore them, if i were to go that route, what kind of pickups would you suggest?

Whatever you decide to get, leave the electrics alone till you're familiar with the tone. That way, you'll know what you do and don't like, and be able to make a much better informed decision.

Well frankly, I'd suggest keeping them stock for a short while. What would possibly be a better investment would be a nice overdrive to tighten up the frontend of the amp, would certainly give a one channelled valve amp a lot more flexability.

However, I'm rather partial to an English company called Swineshead. However, if you're living in the states, you're just as well looking into GFS for budget pups and SD for a more pricey option. But like a say, I think a good OD would serve you better i nthis early stage.

As for which Classic Vibe guitars, I'd be inclined to suggest the Tele, or the ever so orgasmic Duo-Sonic. Just look at it:
