ok so i have a RGR420EX ....and it barely has any sustain....

it has a bolt on neck and a floating trem...so i know it wasnt gunna keep a note forever, but is there anyway to squeeze out that last few seconds of sustain without dumping major $$$ into my guitar?

im playing into a Randall RX30D ....incase any1 is wondering

Then live without the sustain, though all the other RG's I played (also the floating trem-uns) had decent sustain

raise the action by a 1/4 turn, it gives more room for the string to vibrate. a 1/4 of a turn is barely noticable visually and comfort wise and won`t really affect the playability except to give you more sustain.

if the bridge is blocked it won't move as much meaning the stings vibrate more rather than the bridge.

Yeah. people, like Lemoninfluence, are hypocrites and should have all their opinions invalidated from here on out.

^Also there is more connection between the bridge and body through the piece of wood that is used to block, rather than just the two studs which hold the bridge in.

Turn the amp up. Use vibrato and feedback. You'll be able to sustain a not forever on any guitar.
#20
you should have no sustain problems at all. Get a set up and that should take care of it

Get it set up. The RGs I've played have all had decent sustain, if its bad enough that you're complaining about it, it either needs a set up or you just want too much sustain.

I don't think the 420s are Japanese - but the RG550 sustains quite a while if it needs to, and I haven't felt disappointed with 350s either; it's either your setup or (perhaps) your playing.

One is an easy fix, the other is a cheap fix - so you never lose!

Check that everything is tight, especially the neck screws. If they're loose it can kill sustain.
