What is the difference between the amp mentioned above with Celestion G12K-85 8 ohm speakers and two footswitches? and the vh-140c in terms of value. Also is the vh-140c similair in sound to the 6505?

The VH-140C has a slightly different preamp, you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference. They're pretty much the same exact amp.

The Ampeg is a unique sound, very "chainsaw-like," a lot of grind to it. Awesome sound IMO. In comparison to the 6505, I'd think it's a little more scooped, IbanezPyscho has a VH-140C and a 6505+, he'd probably be the one to answer that question best

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
