So i was at the mall with my friends today and they are fans of brand name clothes, so i was with them and they were looking at some clothes and some of the prices are unbelievable! I saw this leather jacket and i was like "oh thats pretty cool, oh it's diesel, must be pretty expensive" thats when i looked at the price tag. $950.00!!!! I have some big brand name clothes but i got them all for pretty cheap.

So pit i was wondering what is your oppinion on brand name clothes? Love it? Hate it?

I hate super preppy, super expensive clothes. Just go into american eagle, you won't walk out with a shirt under $50. I personally refuse to pay any more than $20 for a shirt or $35 for a pair of jeans. That's why if I ever shop for anything preppy looking, I go to aeropostale. Its like the poor man's american eagle.

same with me. i also hate it when you go into big brand name stores and the give you dirty looks because your wearing a $10 t-shirt and not one of their $100 shirts.
#16
Because the materials and process of making the clothing is usually much more expensive. But there is an amazing difference in quality that most people who have never owned an expensive pair of jeans don't know about that really makes it worth it if you can actually afford something like that without putting them on lay-away for a year. It's not like you're just paying for the name like people make it out to be.

Edit: There is still, however, no reason to pay more than $50 for any shirt unless it's a dress shirt, and leather will always be far too expensive. And mall brands will always be of poor quality. Mall name brands =/= Name brands.

Nothing really. They put a logo on a $5 piece of cloth and then put a $75 dollar price tag on it.

haha no lie my friend just bought some off brand shorts at walmart, and inside was a button that says abercrombie. he couldn't believe but that proved they're all made in the same chinese sweatshop, they just get different names and buttons stitched on.

Yeah, they're way too pricey.
My brother wears all these brand-name clothes, and I've seen his credit card bill go way up because of, like, Boss jeans, Ed Hardy shirts, etc.
Personally, I buy cheaper clothes, they;re just as comfortable, and I wont get a heart attack if I ruin it. I know H&M has comfortable shirts for, like, $11 here. There must be 6 of those shirts hanging in my closet

You're pretty much just paying for the name.

I went into Abercrombie for some Polo shirts for school one day (darn dress code), and I started to look at all the stuff they had. They had all the colors that were acceptible for my school and then I looked at the price tag. $40.00 for ONE Polo! Overpriced crap and their store gives me a headache.

That's why I don't shop at Hollister, Abercrombie, American Eagle, ect. It's all overpriced junk!

i really like quiksilver shirts (not sure why, i think i just like the name), so i go to hong kong and buy the "old" designs, and possibly fake china-made ones, at the marketplaces in the streets. those are usually a steal.

BUT, last time, on the 20th floor of a department store, they were having a huge discount on a bunch of brand name things. i got like 10 quiksilver shirts for a little over $10 US each, and i haven't needed to buy any more shirts for two years.

Actually, the most awesome pair of shorts I currently own came from an ALDI supermarket. I got them for 8 bucks and they're great. They don't look cheap and they have plenty of pockets.

I agree, to an extent. I think they are over-prized, but jeans and jackets especially are worth paying more for. I wouldn't pay much for t-shirts and polos, or a pair of shorts, however.

I recently managed to buy a pair of $695 AU (Australian $$$) jeans for just over $100, and the quality and feel of them is sublime. That said, I would NOT spend nearly $700 on jeans, unless I had copious amounts of money.

I've gotten 2 polos and a normal t-shirt from American Eagle all for $19 each. Here in Canada that's a really good price I don't know about the US but most shirts here are roughly $25-30.

No it's the brand name, I have 2 leather jackets, one full length leather trench coat and 2 pairs of leather pants, none of that stuff cost more than $300 brand new.

I don't really like the look of them tbh. For reference, I bought a pair of slim light-blue Dsquared jeans. I find the design to be less plain while still remaining understated. Too many rips/tears/logos/chains/zips etc. aren't nice.

It's personal preference though, obviously.

edit: forgot to say, i'm not really arguing that the quality is higher, more the aesthetic appeal. the quality is high though, too.

Name brands are way overpriced, but I can't wear anything less, it's just me.

But what you can do it look for sales. Macy's is always having sales especially towards the end of a season but before the beginning of the next season.
