I wanna make sure I'm getting my money's worth. I'm about to pay $300 for a Yamaha PB400RA. Made in 1985 in Japan. It's got a nice Cherry red finish. I'm sure it'll be an upgrade from my Squier P Bass, which has been giving me problems lately (and I'm just okay with the tone). It's used, and I'm buying it from someone on eBay. I play Pop-Punk, but I also like to dabble with heavier stuff.

Would this be a good purchase?

I'm not into Yamahas but they are damn well made basses. If it's lasted from 1985 to now it's probably got another 20 or so years left in it

I play a squier pbass affinity series. Also, I'm in a pretty serious band with a few gigs every month.

I very highly reccomend another Squier then, the Vintage Modified P or, better still, a second hand MIM Precision. Yamaha are solid but Fender are the solidest, if thats even a word.

He plays pop punk so I suppose a Precision bass is best. Precision basses can be used for all genres anyway.

not brutalitymoncrabcore, where only a t-bird with scooped mids will do.

that bass looks really cool.
ask if you can give it a play before you buy it.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.
