Im a n00blet when it comes to wiring, so if I screwed up the killswitch, please correct me.

wire it across jack. you can change the button to a switch instead.

and GeToChKn, please explain more because a guitar amp hums when it's not plugged into a guitar due to both ground and hot not linking. wiring to the ground anyway is wiring to the ground. what are you doing at that point? sending the hot signal to ground. what do you do if you wire it at the jack? sending the hot signal to ground. Please explain why, more. I can't see the difference. it's all hot, it's all ground.

he was just saying that doing it that way (which is the same way I did it) makes a loud popping noise when you use it. Not noticeable with distortion but makes it pretty unuseable if you're on a clean channel.

indeed it does. only just tested it on mine. oh well. only use it mainly as a standby switch or on OD.
still can't see how it would work better on the volume pot.

Well I didnt get to post the updates yesterday, but I got the wire channels routed and the jack hole drilled out (that was a bitch btw) I also sawed out the neck pocket on the sign itself roughly and will be filing that to be exact along with the pickup holes on Saturday.

figured id just do pics saturday, so none right now.

they will all do that, no matter how you wire it...

Cutting the signal almost always results in a popping sound on a clean sound. The reason is that the wave is cut from whatever amplitude it has (see the white arrow in the picture). However, if you are distorting the signal, it will clip it anyway, so this won't be nearly as noticeable. There's nothing wrong with the wiring; it's just the physics of the situation. This mod sounds best with a heavy, overdriven signal anyway, so it works just fine for most players.

well I got the neck cut in the sign to it's final dimensions today.

Also also chiseled out the jack cavity to be perfect, btw, I've decided that I'm recessing the jack into the side of the guitar now.

the screws holes for attaching the sign are in place, and I started the tummy carve.

This (tummy carve) is by far the hardest part, his spokeshave wasn't working so I had to do some work with a table saw with a sander blade and a hand plane.

We'll be using an air sander for some of the work on wednesday, any other tips for the tummy carve?

Tummy carve?
Rasp, 60grit sandpaper, and a sander. Shouldn't take long at all.

Okay thanks.

I'll be cutting the pickup holes this wednesday hopefully, or atleast one of them (takes awhile getting the metal stuff right)

Also, does anyone have ideas for finish? I've got either red dye, translucent red spraypaint (shows up kind of maroonish), or just a natural-ish stain. Open to other suggestions as well.

Remember however that walnut is quite a dark wood, so the dye (still have to try it) and the paint don't show up too great thin, and thick the paint kind of hidess the grain.

I've also tried wood bleaching, but it didn't make too much of a differenece, might try it with more apllications of the bleach

I was watching deliverance today (just the duel actually) and I thought of how much cooler that banjo would be if it were made out of a stop sign...

I'm eagerly awaiting the next pics still.

I meant just dye it red, then clearcoat over it. I think it'd look pretty sweet. Just do light coats of dye until it's the right colour, and sand in between to keep the grain a bit down.

Oh, I might try that. 'Twould look sweet. Might have to try bleach first too or it would just barely tint it red. (my wood is really quite dark)

Hey look! its a banjo case! I wonder what's in it...?

It's an octagonal guitar body! How odd?

Look at that carve. It ain;t actually as geometrical as it looks, perfectly rounded really.

updates for this build are a week overdue. But I took the pictures with ann actual camera this time, only problem is i cant find the cable to connect the camera to my c0mp00ter...

dang flabbit gasket!

But anyway, what I've done is the string ferrule holes, final sanding, final fitting of most things, and some sanding.

We're pretty much stalled till my finishing stuff gets here though, pics once I find the cable.
