I bought my first electric guitar a few weeks ago (Epiphone Les Paul). I got it for 100$ used, came with amp, pedal, and a soft guitar case.

Most the reviews I read were good, the main thing I hear bad about it is the pick ups. But yesterday I found an abandoned Ibanez Gio (It doesn't look like other Gios, it looks more like a black Gibson SG (Sorry I don't know much about guitars)). The guitar is in terrible shape (It looks like someone keyed their guitar? I don't know why), but I took it for the pick ups (And maybe to smash for fun, haha.)

My question, should I take the pick ups out of the Ibanez and put it on my Epiphone Les Paul? If it even works like that, I have no idea.

Here are pictures of the guitar ~

I also realized the back panel is missing, so I will trash the guitar. And it has "Lust" scratched on the back of the guitar. Sounds like he had a bad relationship, haha, oh well.

I'm pretty sure that's an RG, not a gio... It has shark fin inlays and an edge trem. Keep them both, and DON'T SMASH IT!

Stock pickups on low-end ibanez guitars are nothing to rave about either... if you want to swap the pickups go for it, it might change your tone a bit. And just a note, epis use regular sized bridge pickups whereas ibanez used "f-spaced" for the wider bridge. The pole pieces might not line up with your strings.

that is a rg and a decent one, should you swap the pups out of your epi..NO, the ibanez is worth more than the epi

The Ibanez is in terrible condition, I don't think I plan on using it. I can't find any pictures of Ibanez like the one I have. It doesn't look like a RG. The "spikes/horns" aren't long or point. The headstock says Ibanez Gio. But doesn't really look like one.

Yes, that is it. Pick ups are different and the dials are different. But that is the same shape. I'm going to upload pictures soon.

No, the pickups are Ibanez also.

How is that an RG? That obviously isn't the RG shape and it even says GIO on the Headstock...

EDIT: Oh, I see. He must have edited the first post before I first looked at this and you guys posted.

Swap the pick ups bro i would. Also what type of music do you play? Here is a link to some songs i wrote they are not fully finished though. Just need to clean them up a bit and add a couple of things. I was using a ibanez rg420eg/bam with v7/v8 pick ups same as on the gio in the pictures.

it's not an RG. it's a GAX something. worth more than the epiphone, but it definitely is in rough shape. i would save up a little, take both guitars and the money, and go get a real hardtail RG lol i know this isn't a new guitar thread, but thats my opinion. neither guitar is great.

EDIT: and no, they shouldn't be EMGs... my guess is they're passive pickups designed to look like EMGs. kinda cool looking, but they aren't usually great sounding.
