I found a Hagstrom Swede at a guitar shop around me, $750 but on sale for $630. Black gloss, with cream and silver hardware. Specs are here: http://www.hagstromguitars.com/Swede.html#. I'm looking for any opinions on the guitar, including if this is a good price for it.

Alteratively, I was considering at a BC Rich Mockingbird ST (http://www.bcrich.com/mockingbird_st.html). Any thoughts? Thanks.

You can find great deals on eBay on Swedes, there is actually a fella over on HC with a Select Ultra Swede for $275 Dlvd! Select is the mahog. body/maple top & binding instead of the basswood that the normal Ultra Swedes are made of. I think MF sells them for $675 & use to be over $700.

anyway I have 2 Swedes,an ebony regualr Swede and a Blue Chip Select Swede I am very pleased with them. The pots are the weak point, the pups are not bad at all and the build quality is great IMO. I have had a # of guitars.
Carvin DC 127 (mahog.)
SG Standard
SG Faded
Gibson LP Special p90
C1 Classic
Prestige RG
Charvel Model 4
MIA Lonestar strat
Hwy 1 tele
Epi G400
MIM Fat Strat
and more...
I feel so comfortable with them & the quality & feel that I let the SG Standard go to buy a Cadillac,it & maybe the MIA Strat or Hwy 1 tele I could replace 1 of my Swedes with but I honestly feel the Swedes are just as nice. The C1 & Carvin were also great guitars but the necks just didn't feel right & the SG faded & LP Special I think weren't even close to unseating a Swede from me.

Tell him to get it set up right, possibly change the pots, and depending taste the pups and you will feel totally different I think.
There are plenty of Pros who play them,Pat Smear (Nirvana/The Germs/Foo Fighters) is a huge collector of Hagstroms.
