I love my Bugera right now. Very sick amp and I'm grateful for it.

But I'm looking towards the future when I'm gigging with the band and I'm gonna be using amp heads and cabinets, NOT combo amps for live shows.

I've heard some ENGL's and they've got some just dandy tone.

I play a lot of metal: Death, Trivium, Sepultura, Annihilator, Megadeth, old Metallica, Slayer, Cynic, Machine Head, Pantera, Children of Bodom, etc.

I guess you can say my two favorite genres of metal are Thrash and Death metals.

I was looking into either Powerball amp head or the Fireball amp head.

To my understanding the Fireball is a stripped down version of the Powerball.

By the time I need/attempt to purchase something like this I'll most likely be playing with my future guitar, a Jackson WR1 Warrior with a DiMarzio X2n in the bridge and Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck.

So if you guys can help provide any information it would be great.

Well, I've been looking into ENGL's as well and the Fireball is definetily different from the Powerball. I actually liked the Fireball more than the Powerball. I think the Fireball has better, more "crystalline", for lack of a better word, cleans. The Gain on both amps is outstanding, obviously the Powerball can go louder and more "br00tal". Really, try both of 'em out, see what you think.

I've heard that the powerball isn't that great and that the fireball is actually much better. Supposedly the powerball can't cut through the mix very well live.

Not speaking from personal experience of course though

I hear fantastic things about the invader. I'd give that a shot.

Fireball > Powerball IMO the powerball gets raped in the mix. I was at a show 1 guitarist had a powerball the other one a 5150 Couldn't hear the guy with the powerball.

I can't remember exactly what it was, but I read it browsing the forums where multiple people seemed to dislike the powerball. Let me see if I can find the thread.

I'm not positive its true though.

Edit: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1162975&highlight=powerball

I suppose it also depends on the level of versatility you're looking for.

If you're talking about the pups in my future guitar, I've tried invaders and they're personally not my thing. Sounded a little too muddy from my experience.

If you like that amp then it should be fine. It handles metal very well.

That's good to hear.

But now I'm starting to worry about how it'll sound with a Dimarzio X2n in the bridge of my guitar. That's already an insanely hot pickup. Would it still sound good through such a high gain amp?

No. I'm talking about the ENGL Invader. It is usually forgotten, but is a mid-voiced amp along the lines of a 6505 or your Bugera. You should like it.

Yeah but I'm looking moreso into the future when I have enough cash to go after any amp I please.

So I might as well go for the gusto you know?

No he was talking about the Engl Invader which people seem to like a lot, but it costs an arm and a leg. The Steve Morse signature head is based on that model and a bit cheaper though.

Well, the Invader, nor any ENGL for that matter is cheap. I though you were looking solely at ENGL and I was throwing out some other options. I don't recall the user, but someone on here had a Powerball, got an Invader, preferred the Invader and sold the Powerball. So

The Invader is much more versatile than the Fireball. Also keep in mind that many people, like Marty Friedman, Tony Iommi and more use (or are paid to say they use) the Engl Powerball. It's all a matter of taste. One of people's favorite is the Blackmore signature, which is based on the Savage model, but stripped down control wise. The Blackmore is said to have the better cleans of all Engl models, the distortion doesn't go in br00t4lz territory, but it still has a lot of gain, and much more character in the tone.

Watch a comparison vid Blackmore vs Powerball:

I'd take the savage or fireball over the powerball, they're less compressed-sounding from what i've heard.
