i was wondering about the epiphone dot lefty. it looks like a great guitar and the reviews are almost all great, but what i was wonderin is how versatile is it? cuz i play mostly metal and i play rock and blues and classic rock and i wouldnt typically think of a semi-hollow for metal but it looks very good! so i was just lookin for sum help thnx.

I've got one. i love it. very solid guitar. lots of sustain due to the block in the middle of the body.

the pups are pretty deep but that how i wanted mine anyway.

As for the metal, you could try it. be original. I recommend it.

Josh Homme has used Dot's before, however I wouldn't describe his tone as 'metal'.I have heard horrible things about the set-up on dots straight outta the factory.Apparntly the studio blows too.

Yeah the dot studios suck.
But the normal ones are good. mine was set up just fine.

and to OP, if all you're gonna do is overdrive it then that should come out nice.

I'm totally in disagreement with your comment about the Studios. I've played a few and they were really rather nice, especially for the money. Also, I think they look better, the white model in particular.

I don't think that it matters if the guitar comes not set up straight out the box. Most guitarists have their own preferences anyways, so I don't think it matters that much. I'm guessings thats another reason why Gibson get a lot of abuse (fair enough, they aren't doing that well anyways, but you can't slag off a guitar company for not setting it up the way you want it set up).

Anyhow, yeah they are nice guitars. I just wish they made one with P90s. I'm not sure how they'd handle metal, but I think it'll do fine considering it isn't fully hollow. Plus, I suppose if the pickups aren't hot enough for you, you could change them.

Also, sorry to hijack, but does anyone know what colour the bobbins, if that's the right word, underneath the pickup cover are?

Casino :]

and the stock pups, as i said above, are bassy. i personally like that but it might just be my amp. so it may handle metal
