I have made this thread in 'The Pit' but I was suggested to come here for more responses and accurate answers.

Now, recently (around 7 months) I have been playing the electric guitar and now days my teacher has been skipping lessons on me. None-the-less I am going to attempt to find a different teacher; however ever since I've played guitar I've always wanted to try playing the bass. Something, just clicked with the sound; and everything about it. However I'm only 16 right now and need to concentrate on studies when school starts; and I only have an hour or two to play guitar in total if at all so I cannot get a job. Before my teacher stopped contacting me he recommended I buy a new amp and guitar so my parents went with it and bought me something for once in a long time and got me a PRS SE Custom and a Line 6 Spider amp which I am extremely happy with (I guess my parents like me playing music). However, now that that's there and every time I attempt to think of a way to somehow obtain a bass and play it; it reminds me how much they spent on a guitar for me and just makes it harder for me to obtain a bass to play on my own. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd like to get this out of the way before I find another guitar teacher, once again abiding the fact I want to play the bass.

Also, is it true that learning guitar helps you get better at bass overall and is an easy transition? (nonetheless I want a bass; they sound wonderful and I think I would make a good bass player; considering I normally like to take the less-liked or less-played type of instruments or things in games and sports, etc. and always ended up loving it)

..And what bass should I buy for my first if I were to purchase one?

Well if you dont have much money, you could always go to pawn shops and see if they have any old basses lying around. You could also ask to borrow a friends. When it comes to playing through an amp, DONT play your bass through a guitar amp or it will damage the amp

First of all, is the PRS and Line 6 your only gear? if not, what else do you have?

Holy crap, you got a PRS SE Custom. Wow, nice... if you pick up bass, KEEP that!

Also, some left hand technique will translate over and maybe picking chops if you decide to go that way. And any guitar theory you know will be just as applicable to bass. There is some eases that playing guitar first gives, but not much.

For basses, around here most people will say an Ibanez GSR200, or Squier Vintage Modified/Classic Vibe. But it depends on what your budget is and what you intend to play. For amps, Acoustic is highly looked upon here.

you can sell the guitar if your parents let you. Or you could get a job and save your money. The transition is fairly easy if you have been playing guitar for a while.

well if you'd be willing to part with them you'd have enough money for a simple 4 string bass. I mean you dont need to play the bass with an amp, I'd suggest trying to save up for an amp after you get a bass, and you could also sell your line 6 if you wanted, depends on how much you like it. Then once you've got some money I HIGHLY suggest looking around on ebay and craigslist for some great deals. And remember, just because it's used doesnt mean it's shitty

How much is a good amount of money I should spend on my first bass? I want something I can use forever, but not something that will cost me alot; considering I probably will like it over the guitar.

I'm not sure, personally I'm just starting to get into bass as well, I'd suggest going to GC and tryin out some though. But I would say maybe 200-300 at the MOST

Here you go, I found you one on ebay. It's a Fender squier bass with a decent amp, bids start at 50 pounds or you can buy now for 100. personally i think this is much better than the one you posted, and it's a little cheaper as well. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Squier-by-Fender-P-Bass-with-Kustom-KBA20-Bass-Amp_W0QQitemZ300340474281QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV?hash=item45edaff1a9&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

He won't ship it to the US. It's collection only, and he'll only deliver within 15 miles of portsmouth. In England.

you live in cali? why were you looking on the british amazon then? you made me think you lived in the uk
anyway heres a couple of those ibanez sr 300s you like. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m38.l1311&_nkw=ibanez+sr300&_sacat=See-All-Categories They're $300 but the auctions dont end for almost a month, so that should give you some time to get money together.
