http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=971601

the song is creation. if you want you can listen to song idea 1. its around 1 minute and i think i could flesh it out into a cool song. anyways i use guitar rig 3 for sounds (for final production i will mike amps) and superior drummer 2.0 for the drums in creation, and drum kit form hell in song idea 1.i would like a critque on the music as well as mixing productions etc... also if you can tell me what drum sound you like best oout of my 3 songs. anyways thanks for listening and i hope you enjoy my music.

EDIT: i know i messed up on the one clean chord. it really pisses me off but this is just a scratch. final version will have some solos and some vocals. i have another song written that i want to record (but my 7 string guitar has ancient strings and i cant even play the e )

As my old guitar teacher once said: Metal really comes from classical music. The only difference is pinch harmonics, double bass, and lyrics about killing goats.

The song progresses quite nicely, and the riffs fit together quite well. I'd like to see the final version of this.

The thing that stood out the most to me was the drums, they really added alot to the song.

Lets see, on production everything seems good, could be a bit louder. Guitar tones aren't bad, not spectacular, but seeing as you're redoing them it should be fine.

i spend an assload of time programming drums lol. also i have superior drummer 2.0 which adds lot of humanizing features. i play drums as a tertiary instrument (Bass----guitar-Drums) so i kind of know how to think like one. i also just ordered an edrum kit for triggering superior drummer 2.0 so maybe my next track ill play on, but my double bass chops are subpar and my next song "human" is chock full of double bass.

This is pretty cool. I like the guitar parts, the bass is pretty good too. I really like all the sections, and there's a lot of them, good job on writing all of those. Drums are good too. Good song overall.

Very powerful introduction! The drumming is very good, but I didn't like the tone of the drums too much.. perhaps it just sounds empty because there is no bass guitar in the recording. The song is definitely progressive and it flows quite well.

Overall very good for a rough song idea! Get the full band sound and vocals in it and it's gonna sound pretty sweet!

your talking about my song idea right? yea i was just trying some diff drums to see what comes out best. i used a 12" snare, which is better suited for reggae/grindcore. and i didnt add bass yet because some of the rhythms are easy with a pick on a guitar, but hard on a bass with fingers. im lstening to your song now and will leave a crit.

There were definitely good parts in the idea. A bit of work on where you'll do verses and choruses to structure it all up and this could be a solid song. The drum tone was horrid, but I'm sure that's something you can rectify.. The drum arrangement was tight and fun. I like the guitar work.
It has major potential.

7.5/10
Would have gave you more, but it's a work in progress I'm sure I'll enjoy the final product a lot more.

Your song idea had some pretty catchy riffs in it, I really liked how the drums progressed. Creation is very good! I love the bass lines and the tone of the bass. Also the guitar harmonies were nice. One thing I would say is to try to make the drums a bit more interesting.

Song idea 1 sounds pretty good
I love the tone of the bass in Creation... reminds me of something it sounds a lot like. I think some Death songs the bass sounds like that. I really like the rhythm of the chugging chords too. I love it though, and it's got a lot of cool riffs and its pretty much damn awesome all around.
Protest is pretty cool, I really like the growling. I don't really listen to a lot of Death but I can definitely spot the influence it has on all your music. Stuff sounds good, keep it up!

alright ill reply to a few people in this post

Dakkstar: yea for the drums i was just messing around with some diff sounds. i guess a smaller snare isnt so popular yea i got to fix up the structure but i just wanted to record that idea down (still havent written it down in GP5 so will do that in future) the song actually was kind of practice for programming drums so thats why theyre my best effort so far (i used only reaper so it took a long time)

Fode: yea this was a fun piece to write. also for drums i made them as interesting as possible. a big rule in programming is to never go *too* insane, or the drums will never be believable. albiet i couldve added a few more fills and the like but i think its a dcently varied drum track.

RPGoof: yea that bass tone is from a fretless bass pretty difficult to play but that beautiful tone is worth all the hassle (lots o practice on the fretless) most of the protest vocals were tracked at once so they arent great. plus im only 15 so my growls arent really good but in a few years they should be ok. hopefully my singing wasnt too bad (once again in one take, didnt really get to rehearse)

thanks for all the crits guys, its nice to know my music has some decent potential

Nice! You should add vocals to it! You bass sounds really good, proabaly the best part of the song is the bass.

thanks. my main instrument is bass so i always like to add a solid/interesting bass part, although my lack of guitar skills has made me been playing guitar a lot more so i can keep up with some of the more tech parts in my other songs.

The first thing that came to mind here, is that the bass is too loud in the mix. At points the guitars become almost completely inaudible, which really makes a reocrding, especially i this style feel empty. Also, the drum sound doesn't suit the metal genre all that well. I would suggest using Drumkit from Hell, make the bass drum and snare louder, and turn down the cymbals.

However, the tones of the bass and guitar were quite nice. I can't judge the distorted guitars too well since they are so low in the mix, but the clean tones are excellent.

Additionally, I loved the use of fretless bass throughout, and the bass playing was excellent. I'm going to go ahead and assue that the bass work+the looudness of the bass in the mix means you are a bass player first and foremost, and it works well with the whole Cynicy vibe.

The other complaint I have is that the drum writing is a little bit over simplified. A little more syncopation and coherence between drum patterns would make the whole song flow better. However, most people who aren't drummer rarely are excellent at writing drums, myself included.

Overall, the song itself was excellent. Even without vocals, it stands on its own well. However, the two majot gripes are:
1. The Bass is too loud. Just a slight reduction in gain on that track and you're golden.
2. The drums need tighter, more metal-oriented sound. Obviously, drunkit from hell will give you that, and I suiggest using it for songs in this style in the future.

That's all. The writing was great, but the production needs a couple tweaks, but nothing major.

Would you mind giving my new one a look?

Prog ftw. The song itself is pretty awesome, all the parts work great together, I just think the bass tone needs a bit of work, it needs a little more attack, its too...round, if you know what I mean? Mess with the mid, raise the treble a bit. Other than that, its really cool. I like the trippy part around 3 15, reminds me of porcupine tree, if you know them.

I love the bass in the beginning.

The guitar also a good tone.

It really sounds like it should have vocals. at 0:30.

the chords at 0:48 sound cool, but this songs feels really empty without vocals, still written well.

It also kinda sounds like there is no structure though. I understand its prog metal, but I do like the repetition of some parts even if VERY little.

Good song though and thanks for the crit.

I liked the riffs.Very Zakk wylde-like. The drum rhythms are killer too.

I'd love to hear some vocals over them!

sorry it took so long for me to crit your piece, ivebeen busy the past few days. anyways i just finished it and i though it was a ver ambient piece. i though it would be good for like a movie soundtrack because it goes from the kind of "chill" atmosphere to full on blastbeating on the drums with some heavy riffs. although this leads to a cool effect, it gave the song a stop and start effect, giving off the feeling of just a bunch of riffs pieced together (thats only in the worst case scenarios, not with yours) the drums were programmed pretty well, except the sounds werent top notch. anyways overall pretty cool tune, thanks for checkin gout my song.

very nice dude. i love the rhythms and the bass sound is ****in sweet. not to mention your bass playing is very nice too. love the clean guitar too. those chords are very nice on top of the bass lead.

try to let stuff fade out a bit if you're multitracking. like at the end of the clean part, let that fade out into the metal riff you have there.

i can definitely tell you did the default setting for superior, which isnt terrible, but theres some easy ways to get a better sound. while the bass drum sounds okay on that kit, you should probably EQ the snare a bit in superior in the mixing mode. and definitely use the C3 key for the hihats instead of the one you have now. The open hi hat you have now is a light hit and the C3 midi key makes it ring out more for a fuller hi hat sound. really nice dynamics though on the drums, the volume swells were perfect. but definitely try to compress that kick drum and lower some of the mids on it to take away that airy sound, cause it just doesnt work with prog stuff.

Great playing, thx for the crit

love the bass!

Wow dude. I like, it took me a second to get into the voice of your bass, but after that I felt that it really fit the music. Some of its pretty choppy, but thats to be expected out of prog. I actually think im going to keep listening to that song, and your other stuff. Good job man.
Peace be thy journey
