I have a 12" JL Audio in my car right now and it's way too much. It was perfect in my van but alas, she will no longer pave the roads of adventure. I'm thinking about getting four 8" or two 10" speakers and building a box. Would a tube with speakers at each end damage the speakers or help them return to the neutral state? Would a port help?

I'm not sure this belongs in the pit.

EDIT: maybe, I can't really find anywhere else it would go either lol

I figured it would go here since it's car audio, not band gear. If I'm wrong, I will move it.

if you want bass, just get a 10" woofer. dont bother w/ tubes and sh*t.

I'll most likely build something simple but I'm just curious as to whether this would work or not. After seeing a tube amp with a 15" woofer that damn near knocked my socks off I started wondering if this would even be feasible.

then get two tens. me and a buddy of mine just saw a bad ass little pioneer 10 for 250. it was only being pushed by a rockford fosgate 500 watt, or something smaller than 1k. we felt it as soon as we stepped foot in best buy, and it was in the back left corner.

I know nothing really at all about car audio/subs, but I put a 12" Sony Xplod through a 700 watt Alpine amp in the back of my car...and now I never want to leave my car. It makes the music sound so massive and awesome

No, poor decision, leave one end open and it will be louder multiple times over.

Mathematically a subwoofer at the end of an infinitely long tube is the perfect speaker cab. If you close the tube, it's pointless.

if you think a XPLOD sub is good, try phoenix gold, or rockford fosgate.

Go for a single tenner or two tenners in a sealed box. Tubes are overrated garbage in my experiences.

Ugh, RF stuff is mediocre at best. Try some Alpine Type-R's if you want quality.

Yea I'm sure there are more impressive subs out there, but like I said, I'm a bit of a starter when it comes to this stuff. I definitely would like to upgrade in the near future though. I've heard Memphis Mojos are supposed to be really good too, but I don't know how they handle rock.

I took the Xplod because numerous stores told me that it would put out a much better sound with the quicker beats of rock/metal than a lot of the other subs.

really? I find it makes the music all sound so much fuller with the subs on. Then again I never have the sub level set to full, so it never overpowers the music.

The opposed subs would work if they were at 180* phase of each other, thus keeping the pressure in the tube constant. However, it would sound-cancel itself :\

What does "180* phase" mean? Sorry if this is simple stuff, I'm not well versed in the audio department, obviously.

It was just an Idea. It just means that while one of them is pushing out, the other one is going back in.

They're amazing. A friend of mine has a pair of Type-R tenners in a custom-built box (not a shoddy home build, it was done by a professional) and I LOVE the sound of them. Punchy as hell and not even slightly muddy.
