Hey everyone, whether you know it or not I'm currently looking to get myself my very first bass. Well I've decided that I would like to get either a Fender or Squier bass, my dilema is I dont know the difference between a Jazz and Precision bass. So could someone please help clear this up for me?

Also, is there a large difference in quality between the Squier and Fender models?

Thanks for any help

Fender is a higher-end brand, while Squiers are a cheaper brand by Fender. A nice Squier 5-string Jazz bass (I forget the actual model) is about $300, but the Fender version is upwards of $900 USD. I can't say too much about the sound as I've never played a Jazz, but both basses are pretty cool.

p-bass is thumpier.

if you don't know, I'd guess a jazz is a safer choice- it gets every sound almost.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.
