I have a zoom g2.1u and a Valveking 212. Can the Zoom unit substitute for the Bad Monkey overdrive pedal using the Zoom's overdrive distortion settings? Or is the Bad Monkey a different kind of animal that can't be immitated by the Zoom's effects?

im not a fan of multi fx pedals, but if the g2 has a smiler od setting then yes it can

Multi-fx units are always bad at replicating distortion and OD stompboxes. I've never tried anything more then $300-400, but from what I have tried, no multi-fx can pull it off.

I like multi-fx pedals but i have to agree their weak points are od/fuzz. The only one i can live with is the procorat model in my POD, but even that's not enough.
