an electric acoustic is just an acoustic guitar that can plug into an amp or PA system for amplification. A semi acoustic would be something like my Taylor T5, which is capable of electric guitar sounds when played through an electric guitar amp and acoustic sounds when played through an acoustic amp or PA system. There are quite a few brands that make semi-acoustic guitars. Gibson has a guitar called the Dark Fire coming out on december 15th which, among a lot of other features, has 6 piezo pickups (one under each string) which will allow the guitar to produce acoustc sounds. There are more. I believe Godin and Ovation both make one.
