SOOOOOO, I'm going to be building the ultimate guitar: A cross between a les paul, strat, and my dog. The Specs so far are as follows:

weird shaped Solid mahogany body
Ibanez (hopefully) bolt on strat scale neck
4 Pickups:
Seymour Duncan Phat Cat or stewmac golden age buckhummers at the neck
Blue Lace Sensor at the neck
Dunno at the single coil bridge but maybe a golden age or lace holy grail
Have no idea what humbucker to have at the bridge, but maybe something harder than a phatty, for blues and stuff

Dunno what bridge but either a hardtail, or a tele bridge, since they have a simple string
through setup. I really don't want to have to make a body cavity on the back so a tremolo is probably out unless I get a floyd rose or something.

My playing style is some jazz, light rock, pop, and most clean tones, on the warm side. I also like a bit of distortion sometimes. (but the phattys and golden ages have an all right dirty sound)
A good clean sound I would like

Any Suggestions?

Okay this sounds, interesting... Erm you do realise you still need a trem cavity for an FR right?

i think he meant that he cbf unless its a floyd...

but dont say its the ultimate build.
even my 8 string wont be the ultimate build. (even for me)

what i want is so imposible...

8 string, 6 string, 4 string bass, 6 string bass, can do metal to cleans...

ok its not imposible, but it would be crazy... and proberbly not awesome to play (4 necks, come on!..)

and restringing a 4 neck, bass guitar, crazy ERG4 thing... would be a biiaacchhh...

i think you meant bigsby
to my knowledge thats the only trem that doesnt require a body cavity.
and they go really well w/ a tele bridge imo

also, i think that many pickups could get muddied and **** your sustain.
im not really sure, but thats just what I've heard, so if any one wants to say other wise... please just be nice

No.

Well, technically it could be done, but only in the same way that you could change a cat into a hamburger. It's an unpleasant process, and nobody is happy with the result.

That's the oddest opening sentence to a build I've seen.

Any drawings / pics of what it'll be like?

Truth be told man, you may as well just use 2 SD P-Rails instead of 4 different pickups. They're badass, just as versatile and way cheaper than everything you want and you'd have to route out less of the wood. If you have a vendetta against hum, like I do, just shield all the cavities.

Mixing the two most iconic guitar could be considered AN ultimate build.

You realise that within the number 8, is the number six, it's not like you can't play 6-string songs on an 8 string (and 4-string songs on a 6 string.)

^this, my ultimate build is just a doubleneck 6 and 8, covers all the basses

(and maybe a double corse 7 string: (14 strings)

You do realize that 4 neck guitars exist right?

Yeah, everyone should just realize that whatever great or innovative idea they may have has probably been thought of or even done before. It doesnt mean they cant be done again, it just means you shouldnt act like its the greatest guitar build ever.

I checked, as far as I've researched, no one has ever made a 16 string guitar (double corse 8 string)

but on topic, I'll be looking forward to this build, just like every other one

Sounds like an interesting build , I like it all apart from the Ibanez neck. And dont get a floyd .

well, a 4 neck guitar wouldent be easy to hold, ect...

and otehr than that a 8 string and 6 string neck feels differant, uknow?

but hopefully if i do make my 8 string, ill make a 6 string bass to go with it

Ok. I don't think I'm going to be gettting a floyd, since they are impossible to install, setup, and restring (or string). I think I will have a hardtail just to be on the safe side. To all the people saying this can't be the ultimate build, it is for me so shut up (jk) xD. Not so sure about the ibanez neck either since I cant seem to find one for a decent price. Maybe just a standard neck like a fender or something...

They do feel different yeah, but if you wanted a 6-string and and 8 string in one guitar, just get an 8 string.
I think playing 6 string stuff on an 8 string guitar is easier than pissin' about with two necks
#20
^this, my buddy's intrepid is fun to mess around with, takes a while to adjust, but its fun. I have no problem with playing normal 6 string licks on it. Can't comment on the 6 string bass as the most bass strings I've touched is 5, but I can't imagine it being too much different.
