Okay, so I'm just going to completely throw my old post away.
I decided against the Gainiac 2.
I think I am going to get the digitech GSP1101.
But my question now is,
since this is about 500 dollars,
I won't currently have enough for a preamp until I sell my head,
so, could I run this preamp through my "insert" jack and use my head as a power amp?
I heard somewhere I could.
If so, what jack from the preamp would I need to run it from?

Thanks,

and sorry for my noob questions.

I can't say I've exactly tried a lot of preamps, but I'd suggest you save up a bit and get a better preamp. Ones I've been looking at myself would be a Mesa Studio/Quad/Tri-Axis and the Engl E570 and E580. In general, if you want good rack stuff it's gonna cost you an arm and a leg.

Take a look at the used stuff. I don't know how much the rocktron power amp goes for, but you can pick up a used marshall 9200 (2x 100 watts) for a couple hundred bucks.

GSP1101 = digital and digital sounding + it's pretty complicated to operate
Rocktron Gainiac is just basic tube preamp, nothing spectacular.

I still wonder why people don't look on the used market...
You could find:

Rocktron Chameleon: digital, but still sounds great and easy to program, easy to find under 300$
Rocktron Piranha: awesome, tube with lots of gain, pretty hard to find, maybe around 400$ or less
Mesa Studio Preamp: less versatile than the Triaxis or Quad, but based on the Mark IIC+ it kills about 500$
Marshall JMP-1: many Marshall tones in one little preamp, not my favourite, still sounds great. around 500$
ADA MP-1: Tons of those on He-Bay, sounds raw and heavy. around 250$
Those are the ones I know best, but you can find many more good ones

Edited for wrongness

If you're in Europe, I don't know. If it's 350$ US dollars, then yes it's excellent.
I own a E530 myself and it's amazing... can't say a bad thing about it yet.

Amp head fx loop send > Preamp imput
Preamp output > Amp head fx loop return

That would use both preamps. Wouldn't you only want to use one? So it would be:

Guitar>Preamp>Effects Return

For your original question:

Amp head fx loop send > Preamp imput
Preamp output > Amp head fx loop return

wrong. that would apply if you were using the amp head's preamp and putting modulation or time based effects in the fx loop. heres what you'll want to do:

guitar -> preamp input
preamp output -> fx loop return (not sure what insert is, maybe its the same thing)
periphery/bulb!

gear:
Ibanez RG7321 w/ D-sonic in bridge

Peavey 5150 mk ii & b52 4x12 cab

line 6 podxt for recording

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

Oh, well thanks for your answers, I should get my new setup in the next few days if I can find something good used, or if I decide on something,
I'll be sure to post a NAD.
If I can't find a used one, I think I'm going to buy a new Engl e530.

My bad on the connections, if you can't tell I've never plugged mine this way.
And Engl FTW

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the Engl new for 600.
But I'm talking to different people from craigslist,
one is selling a Peavey JSX head for 600
The other is selling a Peavey Ultra plus for 395.
These are USD by the way.

There's a used (obviously) Rocktron Piranha on He-Bay right now and ending soon. I'ld look into that if I were you. I'ld say aim 350$ and lower... you could get it.
