It's a gibson. It's also craigslist. Go to the person's house and check it out.

I'm just very skeptical because he is asking for much less than I would think a Gibson Les Paul Flametop is worth.

Looks genuine to me, most fakes have inconsistencies and I can't spot any of the usual ones from those pics. Either way you should go and try it before you buy it, GIbson's QC isn't great y'know.

Is QC quality control?

If I went to check it out, what should I look for? How much should a used flametop cost?

QC is indeed quality control.

Theres a topic somewhere on identifying fakes, I'm not sure exactly where though. I'll look for it in a bit. Make sure the neck feels good though, even if its legit it can still be a lemon.

Used guitars on Craigs list go for about 40-60% of the regular price in my experience.

Edit: Found it.

just FYI

http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/CounterfeitGibsons/

if you go over check all these things

if not and turns out to be a counterfit email Gibson direct and say you accidently bought a counterfit, explain it you bought it online and give them the details of the craiglist ... and to check it out

You can buy whatever guitar you want, you don't have to be at a certain skill level to buy one. This is real life, not some guitar-playing RPG where you have to unlock new guitars.
