Hey UG,
Recently I re-strung my acoustic guitar, all was going well until SHOCK HORROR...

The high E string snapped

Now my question to you is: I play in Eb standard, sometimes tuning down to open C. Should I use a spare .15 gauge string or a spare .09 to restring it this time as I don't have a full pack of strings?

id say the .09 because .15 would probably be under to much tension and liable to snap anyway tuning up

Definitely the .09

.15 is too thick to be tuned that high successfully, I mean, I've done it before but it was under EXTREME tension, and broke while I was playing. Open C has the 1st string as an E anyways, so definitely go with the .09.

Cheers for the help guys, thats what I was thinking but i didn't want to mess it up if i did it wrong (strings are expensive if you didn't know )
